Avian influenza - situation in Egypt - update 43

The Ministry of Health of Egypt has announced a case of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus.
A 7 year-old male from Gharbia Governorate, developed symptoms on 20 January and was hospitalized on 20 January.
He is in a stable condition.
Investigations into the source of infection indicated that the case had exposure to sick poultry.
The case was confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN).
Of the 122 cases confirmed to date in Egypt, 40 have been fatal.
