اعلن تقرير وزارة الصحة حول وفاة الطفلتين "التوأم" بالفيوم بعد تطعيمهما ضد شلل الاطفال والدفتيريا والحصبة أن الوفاة نتيجة سكتة قلبية مفاجئة حيث تشير الهيئات العلمية الدولية أن معدل حدوث الوفاة للأطفال نتيجة السكتة القلبية المفاجئة تحدث ل 8 أطفال لكل 10 آلاف حالة وفيات في الأطفال. Dr.. عبدالرحمن شاهين المستشار الإعلامي لوزير الصحة أن التقرير استبعد حدوث أي مضاعفات للتوأم من جراء التطعيمات مشيراً إلي أنه لا توجد أي اختبارات علي الأطفال قبل التطعيم لأن الجرعات عبارة عن نقط بالفم وأخري عن طريق الحقن ولم يثبت علمياً أن هناك موانع ضد هذه النوعية من التطعيمات. أضاف: أن هذه التطعيمات تم اعطاؤها لأكثر من 44 طفلا في نفس اليوم ولم تظهر أية أعراض مرضية علي أي طفل اخر وتم التأكد من أن جميع الأطفال الآخرين 42 طفلا بصحة جيدة بالاضافة إلي أن اللجنة التي قامت بفحص أدوات التطعيم أكدت سلامة وكفاءة سلسلة التبريد الخاصة بالطعوم وعدم وجود أي علامات أو ظواهر غير طبيعية علي الطفلتين مما يؤكد أن الوفاة جاءت نتيجة سكتة قلبية مفاجئة "للتوأم".
