The road from Gangtok to Mangan is open.
The road from Mangan to Chungthan is yet to be opened. The damage to the road is reported to be heavy.
Two Rescue Teams of 30 personnel each from Jat Regiment were airdropped at Mangan and Chungthan yesterday for search and rescue. The team has started work.
A team of 10 doctors from Delhi has reached Chungthan.
The number of deaths as reported by the State Govt. of Sikkim is 50. This may increase further as rescue and relief teams reach into the interiors ? The break-up is as follows: East Sikkim-12 (Rangpo ? 1, Singtam ? 2, Chubakola ? 5, 15th Mile ? 2, Sang ? 1, Makha ? 1); North District -33 (Mangan/Lachan ? 10, Toong ? 4, Chungthan ? 10, Salimpokyel ? 9) West District -4 (Mangalbaria -2, Geyzing -1, Kalukh-1); South District -1 (jorethang -1).
The number of deaths in West Bengal (Darjeelling ? 8, Jalpaigudi ? 1, North West Dinajpur ? 3) and Bihar (Nawada ? 1, Nalanda ? 1, Darbhanga -1, Shivhar -1 and Samastipur -2) are reported to be 12 and 6, respectively.
5 teams of NDRF were placed at Gangtok yesterday. One team has left for Mangan at 7.15 a.m. today. Arrangements are being made to airlift another NDRF team to Chungthan.
Two choppers are being pressed into service with the officials of NDRF and State Govt. for aerial surveillance of affected areas and to ascertain the damage and casualties.
Food packets have been airdropped in the Northern areas of North District this morning.
The State Govt. have informed that they have opened relief camps in each district.
Senior Secretaries of the State Govt. have been deputed in each district.
One Joint Secretary from MHA has been deputed to Sikkim to coordinate the relief operations.

GANGTOK: The Army on Thursday recovered 10 bodies from tunnels in the Teesta Stage III hydel project in north Sikkim, the worst-affected district, taking the number of those killed at the project site to 27. The number of casualties in Sikkim has now swelled to 79 and the overall toll to 150.

Governor Valmiki Prasad Singh said he had received information about companies involved in hydel projects trying to suppress the number of those dead. "The companies should not try to hide casualty figures and must come out with proper list of missing and dead. Each of the dead should get compensation from the Centre and the state," Singh said, who is to visit Mangan on Friday.

10,000 food packets airdropped, toll rises to 118

Fearing fresh tremors and landslides, hundreds of people in quake-hit remote areas of Sikkim started moving out of their villages as rescue teams airlifted 22 stranded engineers with the death toll in Sunday?s 6.8 devastating temblor rising to 118.
Scores of survivors trekked through difficult terrain and inclement weather from Lachung, Lachen and Chungthang reaching Tung, 10 km from Chungthang, one of the worst-hit areas, and recounted how huge boulders hurtled down the hills smashing their homes and leaving many dead and injured.

With another body recovered in North Sikkim, the overall death toll has risen to 118 including 75 in the Himalayan state while West Bengal has reported 15 deaths, nine in Bihar, 11 in Nepal, seven in Tibet and one in Bhutan.
The number of dead in Sikkim has climbed to 57 in North District, East [13], West(4) and South (1).

More than 100 relief camps have been set up across the state where food supplies and other required materials have reached, Chief Secretary Karma Gyatso told reporters.
?We first escaped to Guma and spent the night there and next morning we started trekking through extremely difficult terrains covered with debris,? Karma Bhutia (30), who arrived from Lachen here after trekking for two days, said.
Bhutia several villagers had to crawl some distances in spells since they feared that the wet soil might cave in any moment if they walked on such stretches.
