Earthquake-ravaged Christchurch cathedral is so badly damaged it will be demolished, church authorities in New Zealand have announced.

The decision has outraged heritage campaigners, who were calling for the 131-year-old neo-Gothic style building to be saved.
Announcing the fate of the city centre landmark, the Right Reverend Victoria Matthews, the Anglican Bishop of Christchurch, said the walls would be "deconstructed" to a safe level of 2-3 metres above the ground.
