    SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — About 20 cars of a Norfolk Southern cargo train derailed near Springfield Saturday evening, the second derailment of the company’s trains in Ohio in a month, officials said.

    But unlike the Feb. 3 derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, a company spokesperson said there were no hazardous materials aboard the train, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

    ... The Clark County Emergency Management Agency has asked residents within 1,000 feet of the derailment to shelter in place, but the agency said it has not issued formal evacuation orders.

    In an update at 8:50 p.m. EDT, the agency said officials are working to make sure that no hazardous materials were involved.

    UPDATE: Clark County officials to hold news conference shortly on Norfolk Southern train derailment

    ... DeWine (Ohio Governor) added that multiple state agencies including the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Ohio Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were all on the scene as well.

    “We don’t believe hazardous materials were involved,” DeWine said in the social media post.

    ... A hazmat crew is confirmed to be on scene, according to News Center 7′s Taylor Robertson.

    The Clark County Emergency Management Agency is asking residents within a 1,000 feet of the train derailment in Clark County to shelter in place.

      ... Two tankers contained residual amounts of Diesel Exhaust Fluid and the other two tankers contained residual amounts of Polyacrylamide Water Solution, which are two “common industrial products shipped via railroad,” according to a Facebook post from county officials.

      Clark County officials have released the initial report on the materials carried by a Norfolk Southern train that derailed in Springfield Township on Saturday.

        CNN — Seven US government investigators briefly fell ill in early March while studying the possible health impacts of a toxic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed to CNN on Thursday.

        The investigators’ symptoms included sore throats, headaches, coughing and nausea – consistent with what some residents experienced after the February 3 train derailment that released a cocktail of hazardous chemicals into the air, water and soil.

        The investigators who experienced symptoms were part of a team conducting a house-to-house survey in an area near the derailment, and they immediately reported their symptoms to federal safety officers.

        ... people living in East Palestine and the surrounding area have continued to share stories about unexplained symptoms including headaches, sore throats, nasal congestion, bloody noses, skin rashes, coughs and eye irritation.

        Ayla Antoniazzi's 4-year-old daughter developed a rash after going back to school in East Palestine.

        ... The CDC acknowledged the incident to CNN after posts began circulating on social media saying the team was sent home because they got sick; the official said that wasn’t the case. ...
