The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding the services of the eight Designated Flu Clinics (DFCs) and the confirmed human swine influenza patients admitted to public hospitals, the Hospital Authority (HA) today (May 6) provided the following wrap up of the past week:
In the past week (April 29 - May 5), a total of 717 patients with flu-like symptoms attended the DFCs. Among all confirmed human swine influenza patients, 20 are now staying in public hospitals for treatment, with 16 in stable condition, two in serious and two in critical condition.
Furthermore, the newly confirmed cases in the past week included three female staff members of public hospitals (two nurses and one clerical/administrative staff).
So far 1,403 HA staff members have been confirmed with human swine influenza.
Among them, 1,401 have recovered and returned to work.
The HA spokesman reminded members of the public that the eight DFCs run a half-day service from 9am to 1pm during weekends and public holidays, while full-day service (9am to 5pm) is maintained from Mondays to Fridays.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) today (May 6) announced a new critical case of human swine influenza (HSI):
A 35-year-old female patient with hypertension and morbid obesity attended the Accident and Emergency Department of PYNEH on May 3 due to fever and cough.
She was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment. Positive result for HSI was confirmed yesterday (May 5) and the patient was prescribed Tamiflu and antibiotics. She is now in critical condition and requires ventilation support.
The hospital is closely monitoring her condition.

The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) today (April 30) announced a new critical case of human swine influenza (HSI):
A 23-year-old male patient with Hirschprung's Disease was admitted to PYNEH via the Accident and Emergency Department yesterday (April 29) for fever and cough. He was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for treatment on the same day. Positive result for HSI was confirmed today (30 April). He was prescribed Tamiflu and antibiotics. He is now in critical condition and requires ventilation support.
The hospital is closely monitoring his condition.

Swine and Seasonal Flu Monitor is a weekly report produced by the Respiratory Disease Office of the Centre for Health Protection. It summarizes and monitors the weekly situation of HSI and seasonal influenza in Hong Kong.
Local situation on Human Swine Influenza (Pandemic influenza H1N1(2009)) - (as of Apr 28, 2010)
- As indicated by the latest surveillance data, the activity of Human Swine Influenza (HSI) in the community remains at a low level.
- As of Apr 28, 2010, 23 patients with HSI infection remained in public hospitals.
- The number of severe cases recorded in week 17 (Apr 18 to 24, 2010) was 0. As of Apr 28, 2010, a total of 277 severe cases were recorded. These severe cases included 170 males and 107 females with ages ranged from 30 days to 95 years (median: 52 years).
- In week 17 (Apr 18 to 24, 2010), no fatal cases were recorded. As of Apr 28, 2010, a total of 80 fatal cases were recorded. They were 56 males and 24 females, age ranged from 1 to 95 years (median: 56 years).
Local situation on seasonal influenza (as of Apr 28, 2010)
- The latest surveillance data showed that seasonal influenza activity has decreased when compared with the peak level during late March, 2010.

Furthermore, there has been no staff member of public hospitals among the newly confirmed cases in the past week.
So far 1,400 HA staff members have been confirmed with human swine influenza.
Among them, 1,399 have recovered and returned to work.
The HA spokesman reminded members of the public that the eight DFCs run a half-day service from 9am to 1pm during weekends and public holidays, while full-day service (9am to 5pm) is maintained from Mondays to Fridays.

- As of Apr 21, 2010, 28 patients with HSI infection remained in public hospitals.
- The number of severe cases recorded in week 16 (Apr 11 to 17, 2010) was 1. As of Apr 21, 2010, a total of 277 severe cases were recorded. These severe cases included 170 males and 107 females with ages ranged from 30 days to 95 years (median: 52 years).
- In week 16 (Apr 11 to 17, 2010), two fatal cases were recorded. As of Apr 21, 2010, a total of 80 fatal cases were recorded. They were 56 males and 24 females, age ranged from 1 to 95 years (median: 56 years).
Local situation on seasonal influenza (as of Apr 21, 2010)
- The latest surveillance data showed that seasonal influenza activity has decreased when compared with the peak level during late March, 2010.

The Department of Health (DH) today (April 22) reminded members of the public that seasonal influenza vaccinations under the Government Vaccination Programme (GVP), Elderly Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (EVSS) and Childhood Influenza Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (CIVSS) would come to an end on April 30, 2010.
A DH spokesman said surveillance by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) revealed a decreasing trend in seasonal influenza activity, which signalled that the traditional peak season for seasonal influenza had passed.
"After reviewing the prevailing situation, the Government decided to terminate seasonal influenza vaccinations under the GVP, EVSS and CIVSS on April 30," he said.
The seasonal influenza vaccination programme and subsidy schemes started on October 19, 2009.
As at April 18, 2010, a total of 505,706 doses of seasonal influenza vaccines had been administered under these schemes.
Meanwhile, the human swine influenza vaccination programme and subsidy scheme will continue until expiry of the vaccines.
More detailed information on the vaccination programmes and subsidy schemes is available from the CHP website (www.chp.gov.hk).
A hotline, 2125 2125, operates during office hours to answer enquiries on the vaccination programmes and subsidy schemes.

In the past week (April 15 to 21), a total of 746 patients with flu-like symptoms attended the DFCs. Among all confirmed human swine influenza patients, 25 are now staying in public hospitals for treatment, with 17 in stable condition, seven in serious and one in critical condition.
Furthermore, the newly confirmed cases in the past week included a female supporting staff member in a public hospital. So far 1,400 HA staff members have been confirmed with human swine influenza. Among them, 1,394 have recovered and returned to work.
The HA spokesman reminded members of the public that the eight DFCs run a half-day service from 9am to 1pm during weekends and public holidays, while full-day service (9am to 5pm) is maintained from Mondays to Fridays.

- In week 15 (Apr 4 to 10, 2010), one fatal case was recorded. As of Apr 14, 2010, a total of 80 fatal cases were recorded. They were 56 males and 24 females, age ranged from 1 to 95 years (median: 56 years).

The spokesperson of Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) today (April 15) announced the following fatal case of human swine influenza (HSI):
PMH was informed by the Centre for Health Protection yesterday (April 14) that the test result of a 58-year-old man with diabetes mellitus was positive for HSI. He had been sent to PMH's Accident and Emergency Department at midnight on April 11 after collapsing at home and was certified dead on arrival.
The case has been referred to the Coroner for investigation.

Hong Kong influenza A/H1N1 death toll rises to 80
HONG KONG, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong has reported one more death case from A/H1N1 influenza, bringing the city's death toll to 80, said the Hospital Authority on Thursday.
A 58-year-old man with diabetes mellitus was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital's Accident and Emergency Department at midnight on April 11 after collapsing at home and was certified dead on arrival.
The hospital was informed by the Center for Health Protection of Hong Kong on Wednesday that the test result of the patient was positive for A/H1N1 influenza.
The case was reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and Center for Health Protection.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) today (April 13) announced the following fatal case of human swine influenza (HSI) :
A bedridden 77-year-old male patient with a history of stroke attended the Accident and Emergency Department of QEH on March 21 due to cough and fever.
He was admitted to the isolation ward.
Positive result for HSI was confirmed on March 29 and antibiotics were prescribed. The patient stabilised and was transferred to Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital on April 1. His condition deteriorated and he was transferred back to QEH on April 12 requiring ventilation support.
The patient passed away on the same day.
The hospital would like to express condolences to the patient's family.
The case was reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and Centre for Health Protection.

Hong Kong, a total of 32 H1N1 patients in hospital
HA confirmed infected with H1N1 influenza (swine flu) inpatient statistics for the past week (April 1 to 7) of the summary. In confirmed cases, a total of 32 patients admitted to hospital for treatment, including 25 in stable condition and two serious and five people in critical condition. In addition, in the past week of newly diagnosed cases, there is no public hospital staff. The HA has confirmed a total of 1,399 employees HSI, has been 1,393 people returned to work.
