  • HK: Cluster of Influenza A cases in Shatin Hospital

    The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The spokesperson of Shatin Hospital made the following announcement today (May 29):

    Four patients (aged 50 to 95) in a female palliative care ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since May 25. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive for Influenza A. One patient had already been discharged. Another patient passed away due to underlying disease on May 29. The remaining patients are being treated under isolation in stable condition.

    Restricted visiting to the ward concerned has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

    Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A in a female palliative care ward, the spokesperson for Shatin Hospital gave the following update today (June 2):

    Two more patients (aged 62 and 84) had presented with respiratory symptoms in the ward. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results were positive for Influenza A. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.



    Restricted visiting to the ward concerned has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
