  • HK: Free flu vaccine program to be extended

Free flu vaccines at public clinics and hospitals will be extended to those who are eligible for waived medical charges.

The extension of the program, to begin on November 1, is seen as an attempt to get more people vaccinated against seasonal flu H1N1 and H3N2.

Already eligible are Comprehensive Social Security Assistance claimants aged 50 and above, the chronically ill, pregnant women, and children six months to six years old.

To extend the protection of the underprivileged, the program will be extended "this season to provide free vaccination to these four groups of persons who are holding valid Certificates for Waiver of Medical Charges from the Social Welfare Department," a spokesman for the Centre for Health Protection said. The HK$130 vaccination subsidy scheme will begin on Wednesday at the clinics of 1,600 participating private doctors.
