The latest surveillance data showed that the influenza activity was at baseline level.
In week 52, the average consultation rate for ILI
among Chinese medicine practitioners
was 1.88 ILI cases per 1,000 consultations.
In week 52, the number of influenza viruses detected in the Public Health Laboratory Centre
was 45, including 28 influenza A(H1N1)2009, 15 influenza A(H3)and 2 influenza B.
In week 52 and the first 4 days of week 1 of 2013 (Dec 30,2012 to Jan 2,2013), there were no new reports of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection. There are totally 22 reports of Tamiflu resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus detected in Hong Kong since 2009.

Week 5:
The latest surveillance data showed that the local influenza activity is increasing. Hong Kong is entering the winter influenza season.
As of Feb 6, there were 8 cases of influenza associated ICU admission or death, in which 3 of them were fatal.

Week 10:
Influenza activity remained elevated
As of Mar 13, there were 31 cases of influenza associated ICU admission or death, in which 10 of them were fatal. (18 years and over)
In week 10, two cases of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection involving a 5‐month‐old boy and a 23‐year‐old male were reported. They had been discharged. The virus strain detected in both cases was sensitive to zanamivir (Relenza). In the first 4 days of week 11 (Mar 10 to 13, 2013), there were no new reports of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection. There are totally 26 reports of Tamiflu resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus detected in Hong Kong since 2009.

Week 11: Influenza remained elevated
As of Mar 20, there were 38 cases of influenza associated ICU admission or death (age 18 or above), in which 15 of them were fatal.
In week 11, one case of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection involving a 6‐year‐old girl was reported. She had recovered uneventfully. In the first 4 days of week 12 (Mar 17 to 20, 2013), one case of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus infection involving a 47‐year‐old male was reported. He is now in stable condition. The virus strain detected in both cases was sensitive to zanamivir (Relenza). There are totally 28 reports of Tamiflu resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009 virus detected in Hong Kong since 2009.

Week 13: Local activity slightly decreased
As of Apr 3, there were 49 cases of influenza associated ICU admission or death (age 18 or above), in which 19 of them were fatal.
In week 13, one case of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza A(H1N1)2009; a total of 30 cases have been reported since 2009.

As of Apr 24, there were 64 cases of influenza associated ICU admission or death (age 18 or above), in which 27 of them were fatal.

3 new outbreaks reported along with an additional 3 outbreaks in the first four days of week 17
No new cases of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) resistant influenza; a total of 30 cases have been reported since 2009.
