Mai has a bird droppings sample detected H5N6 avian influenza virus

The AFCD received notification from the University of Hong Kong that three bird droppings collected from the Mai Po Nature Conservation Area were found to contain the H5N6 avian influenza virus.
A team of researchers from the University of Hong Kong regularly entered the care area to collect samples to monitor avian flu. A team of environmental samples was collected on 25 November. A spokesman for AFCD said there was no chicken farms within 3 kilometers of the area.
