China - Pediatric hospital officials implement emergency plan after daily emergency and outpatients hit record high, mostly respiratory and pnuemonia - Changzhou, Jiangsu province - November 22, 2016
Since the beginning of November pediatric admissions have been growing and now are hitting record daily highs. The hospital has implemented their emergency plan due to the surge. The patient load is normally about 1500 and now is reaching into the 2100 range. 75% of the patients complain of respiratory problems, mostly pneumonia.
The officials state that this year is different with more severe illness being seen. There is a shortage of beds in the pediatric wards. Parents are being asked to bring non-urgent children in the afternoons to manage the inflow.
