  • China - Mystery disease in 6 provinces - HIV/AIDS ruled out - Epstein-Barr virus infection and reactive arthritis

Hello everybody, I?m new to this forum.

I found this report on "RSOE Emergency and Disaster Information Service"
and i don?t know what to make of it.

    Here is the site: http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php

And here is the report: http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert...t=dis&lang=eng

Click on "Event Description" in the upper left corner to read it.

I hope that this is not as bad as it sounds, but I thought you should know about it. I haven?t been able to find a secondary source to confirm this.

"A new infectious disease is spreading in large areas of Mainland China. Symptoms are similar to AIDS but it spreads faster between family members, even via bodily fluids like saliva. Mr. Lin from Yunnan Province caught a disease last May, unlike anything he had seen before. "This disease destroys immunity cells just like AIDS. The lowest amount of immunity cells of some patients is only 200, mine is 400. The doctor couldn't find many antibodies, so he called it 'Fear of AIDS' disease." Preliminary research shows that patients have symptoms of fatigue, chronic diarrhea, swollen lymph nodes, and weakened immunity. But doctors cannot find any sign of the HIV virus. "A huge number of people caught the nameless virus but the doctors cannot make a thorough check. So they make a conclusion that it's a 'Fear of AIDS' disease. The symptoms are very much like those of AIDS."

Because the Chinese Ministry of Health doesn't recognize the disease, it has not carried out any investigation. However, patients feel very horrified and sad when they see their family members and friends become infected by coming into contact with their saliva or sweat. "We hope that media reports can pressure the relevant departments to pay more attention to the disease. Do not make any irresponsible conclusions and say it is caused by fear or psychological effect ? it is a real virus. Many doctors, including doctors from Beijing also say this is an infectious disease." Doctors from mainland China also believe patients might catch the disease. However, the exact number of people infected remains unknown and what the mortality rate is, and how many have died from it.) "

Fuzzy facts, the truth of the unpredictable

The rapid dissemination of the message of May 12, two days after, Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital by declaration made in response to the rumors:
              近日,西祠胡同等网站盛传江苏省人民医院数名医生染患艾滋病的消息……经查,网络上流传的关于我院数名医生 染患艾滋病的消息纯属捏造……近年来,我院工作量逐年攀升,每天门急诊量上万人次,手术上百台,迄今没有出 现一例在我院感染艾滋病的患者和医务人员。

Recently, rumors西祠胡同site, such as People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province, the number of AIDS doctors染患news ... ... According to investigation, the network passed on the number of doctors in our hospital news染患AIDS pure fabrication ... ... In recent years, our hospital workload increased year by year, the daily volume on the door million emergency surgery more than a hundred units, so far no case of HIV infection in our hospital patients and medical personnel.

Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, Miss Zhang Qun, director of publicity in an era of weekly interview with reporters, said that all hospitals are in-line statement in which she herself can not provide more information.
              Why is there this rumor?

Weekly Times reporter a few days in Nanjing survey have heard many versions of this incident, one of which came from a hospital director to say that when they seek medical treatment in the hospital a false health insurance cards by doctors in patients with reprimanded after the anger-venting online rumors, and this person is now captured by the public security.

People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province Zhang doctors revealed a message, a year ago, the Provincial People's Hospital Dr W does have a medical check-ups found in an indicator of HIV-positive were weak, but this person has already left the hospital.
As for Internet rumors of a surgeon who, in these days of rumors are still out-patient work.

In his view, this can be confirmed from the side, the doctors are not the problem, can not let a hospital doctor had AIDS to continue the执刀.

Chang also admitted that recently has really done a physical examination, but is not widely known outside of the Chinese Academy of Dermatology Hospital (Institute) carried out, but hospital tests do.

Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, Miss Wang Hong times weekly in an interview with reporters, acknowledged there has been a hospital doctor is HIV-positive, but that person has already left the hospital, but he was just testing positive, and AIDS or differentiated .
              “这个事情和医院没有直接关系,不是在医院的交叉感染,医院是很安全的,这么大的医院要是不安全,还得了吗 ?我们现在还是门庭若市,一床难求,不是哪一个人造谣就能造得了的。”王虹说。
              "

This matter is not directly related to hospital, rather than cross-infection in the hospital, the hospital is very safe, if the hospital so much insecurity, but also it? We are still packed, a hard to find, not a question of which lie on the individual had to made of. "Wang said.

A few days ago the media reported that the so-called post西祠胡同have been detained by the police is not accurate.

Nanjing police times weekly in an interview with reporters, said: We just asked him some advice and he is not detained.

There are rumors that a Chinese medicine on behalf of the "Lee", has been in the alarm after rumor, but can not confirm the news.

Times weekly, according to a press survey, the top three hospitals in Nanjing within a tender at the time, the hospital official said there is a hospital in Nanjing, there are two people living with HIV, they have a hospital.

However, these messages can not be confirmed from official sources.

The doctor said Zhang, in fact, people in the spread of this matter, the majority are not really interested in peach and AIDS cases, they are motives.

Zhang doctors think that a lot of people talking about this story when, in fact, hate is often because the doctor and the medical profession, so the story continued to increase添枝leaves, made by rumors in the rising number of infections, while the peach is only with the incident to begin no more than a gimmick.

                Thanks for the welcome, Florida1.

This sure feels lika a rumour that has been blown out of proportion.

The only piece of information I managed to find was this video:

It is the same as the previous report, except it is read out loud by a reporter.

The source on #7 doesn't seem to have any relation to this story - it seems to be about a few patients who may or may not have caught the actual HIV virus.

The source seems fairly legitimate, but it may be based on a bad report. There is little specific geographical information, and if Mr. Lin caught the disease last year and is still alive, it doesn't seem like an acute disease.

As far as sweat and saliva, those are bodily fluids. This article isn't saying the disease is airborne or anything like that. The disease could simply be HIV, and the test that was run on Mr. Lin could be a false negative.

This one is certainly worth watching, but the story so far seems vague.

Update: I just hunted around that site, and they do seem to have a bias against the Chinese government. Maybe they want to embarrass the Chinese government. I believe today is the anniversary of Tiannamen Square.

One other bizarre point - this source (www.ntdtv.com) is located in NEW YORK CITY, not China. The other posting via RSOE EDIS is word-for-word identical to that source, so presumably is just quoting that source. Due to posting times, I am 100% sure the NTD source is the original source. The RSOE claim of possibly 600 infected is an error and not in the original source. RSOE frequently has made such errors in the past. The numbers 200 and 400 appear in the article as test results (blood cell counts - but the source calls them "antibodies"?) and that seems to be where that number is derived from.

Several blogs have picked up this story, but everyone is just quoting the same original source, which does seem to have some bizarre errors in it.

Possibly, but the article you posted from China was written at 5am today China time, and the NYC article was at 12:30pm yesterday, so it was actually written first, even accounting for time zones.

Granted, the events inspiring both articles occurred earlier (the NTD in NYC article mentions someone who claims they have been ill for over a year), but they seem independent.

The NYC article could be a misunderstanding, or even an outright forgery.

This is that site's portal for main China news. Other than the story that started this thread, look at all their other news. It has to deal with dissidents, persecution, and things like that. It has an accusation against the Chinese government of murdering a dissident. Hardly an impartial source.

No other health stories (say on H1N1, or bf, or even common illnesses like malaria and dengue), no current China events, just dissidents.

                            I smell an outright lie.
