    By Global TimesPublished: Sep 07, 2022 01:24

Beijing has reported 21 local COVID-19 infections from Tuesday to 3 pm on Wednesday. Three of them were from a high school while the rest came from a university, as the new semester just started a week ago.

According to Beijing Municipal Health Commission, there have been three confirmed cases screened out from the community level in Beijing's Haidian district, the three are classmates and live in the student dormitories of the high school affiliated to Minzu University of China. The high school has traced 570 close contacts, and has been designated as a high-risk area since the three cases have been staying on the campus since September 1.

The other 18 cases were from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) and lived in the university's campus in Changping district. One of them was detected at a hospital's fever clinic on Tuesday while the others, as close contacts, were found positive during quarantine.

When does the cost of the never ending lockdowns exceed any possible benefit? I'd argue that it already does.
In Hong Kong, the guinea pig case, we got 10,000 deaths in a population of 6 million when restrictions were eased. China cannot grow while locked down, so they have to follow the Hong Kong example, despite the human toll.

Beijing reported eight confirmed local COVID-19 cases and two more whose preliminary test results returned positive as of Saturday afternoon, linked back to a university campus. Eight confirmed local cases were reported from 0:00 to 15:00 on Saturday, with seven of the new cases being students on campus of the Communication University of China in Beijing’s Chaoyang district, local authorities said at a press conference on Saturday, noting that all of the infected students had been transferred to designated hospitals.

Chaoyang district officials initiated epidemiological investigation as quickly as possible. As of 3 pm, a total of 584 people were identified as close contacts, and 22,047 people were tested for COVID-19, two of which had returned positive results.

Beijing has ramped up pandemic prevention measures as the Chinese capital city battles a new wave of Covid-19 in schools ahead of a twice-a-decade political meeting next month.

The Beijing government announced on Monday that employees and students must show a negative Covid-19 test taken within the previous 48 hours to return to work and school on Tuesday after the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

That led to chaos on Tuesday morning when commuters found subway gates would not open because they could not verify their Covid-19 tests. During morning rush hour, subway authorities announced that riders’ information would be checked manually.
