  • W.H.O. in talks with China to secure COVID-19 vaccines for global use - The Vaccine Wars are Starting - October 6, 2020

Wishful thinking on the part of W.H.O.?

In the H1N1 pandemic at least one government where the vaccine was made essentially seized the production facility for use by the citizens of that country. Contractual obligations be damned. So a warning for this outbreak. Do not expect any vaccine delivery agreements to be upheld. Maybe yes, maybe no.

China in talks with WHO over assessing its COVID-19 vaccines for global use

China is in talks to have its locally-produced COVID-19 vaccines assessed by the World Health Organization, as a step toward making them available for international use, a WHO official said on Tuesday.

Hundreds of thousands of essential workers and other groups considered at high risk in China have been given locally-developed vaccines even as clinical trials had not been fully completed, raising safety concerns among experts.

China has at least four experimental vaccines in the final stage of clinical trials - two are developed by state-backed China National Biotec Group (CNBG), and the remaining two are from Sinovac Biotech SVA.O and CanSino Biologics 6185.HK688185.SS respectively.

They are tested in such countries as Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China officially joins the new crown pneumonia vaccine implementation plan

Beijing News Express According to the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on October 9, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying answered reporters' questions about joining the "New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan".

Question: China has officially joined the "New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan." what opinions do the Chinese have on this issue?

Answer: On October 8, China signed an agreement with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization to formally join the "New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan."

This is an important measure for China to uphold the concept of a community of human health and fulfill its commitment to promote vaccines as a global public product.

At present, the new crown epidemic is still in a global pandemic, seriously threatening the lives and health of people in all countries. Ensuring that developing countries have equal opportunities to obtain suitable, safe and effective vaccines is China's constant focus. China solemnly promises that after China's vaccine research and development is completed and put into use, it will be provided as a global public product with priority to developing countries. To this end, China maintains close communication with the "Implementation Plan" and takes a positive attitude towards joining the "Implementation Plan." Although China's multi-vessel vaccine research and development is at the international leading level and has sufficient production capacity, we have decided to join the "implementation plan". Capable countries join and support the "implementation plan". By joining the "implementation plan", China will also strengthen vaccine cooperation with relevant countries.

China will continue to work with all parties to the "implementation plan" to make China's contribution to global solidarity in fighting the epidemic and protecting the lives and health of people around the world.
