Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs shows that in the fourth week of January, the national average price of piglets was 25.96 yuan/kg, up 4.5% from the previous week; the national average price of eggs was 9.03 yuan/kg, up 2.7% from the previous week.
A periodic report on the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery sector released by Huafu Securities on January 28th mentioned that the continued stockpiling for the Spring Festival has driven up egg prices. Last week, the average price of eggs was 7.93 yuan/kg, an increase of 0.64 yuan/kg week-on-week, and the price of laying hen chicks was 3.10 yuan/bird, an increase of 0.1 yuan/bird week-on-week. The overseas avian influenza outbreak has hindered the import of grandparent stock, leading to a continued scarcity of high-quality breeding stock. Coupled with the expected recovery in egg prices, the long-term outlook for chick prices is expected to rise. A commentary report on the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery sector released by Kaiyuan Securities on January 26th noted that the laying hen inventory remains high, and although the losses in laying hen farming are narrowing marginally, they are still within the loss-making range. This is expected to accelerate culling and reduce the inventory, thus providing a bottom support for egg prices. A weekly report on agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery issued by Tianfeng Securities on January 26 mentioned that due to the impact of overseas avian influenza border closure measures, the number of domestic breeding poultry imported in 2025 will be reduced significantly to only 119,000, and all of them will come from non-traditional importing countries. Their production performance still needs to be verified in practice, and the supply is expected to turn from loose to tight in the future.
