    Human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus ? update

    20 JULY 2013


    The National Health and Family Planning Commission, China notified WHO of an additional laboratory-confirmed case of human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus. This is the first new confirmed case of human infection with Influenza A(H7N9) since 29 May 2013.

    The patient is a 61 year-old woman from Langfang City in Hebei Province who became ill on 10 July 2013. She was admitted to a local hospital from 10-15 July and transferred to a hospital in Beijing on 18 July . She is in a critical condition. On 20 July 2013, Beijing Municipal Center for Disease Control (CDC) confirmed H7N9 by nucleic acid detection.

    To date, WHO has been informed of a total of 134 laboratory-confirmed human cases with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus including 43 deaths. Four cases are hospitalized and 87 have been discharged.

    So far, there is no evidence of sustainable human to human transmission.

    The Chinese government continues to take strict monitoring, prevention and control measures, including: Strengthening of epidemic surveillance and analysis; deployment of medical treatment; conducting public risk communication and information dissemination; strengthening international cooperation and exchanges; and is continuing to carry out scientific research.

    WHO does not advise special screening at points of entry with regard to this event, nor does it currently recommend any travel or trade restrictions.

    Hebei Province Health Department, Health News, Hebei occurred one case of human infection with H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases, 20 July 2013

    Then Beijing Municipal Health Bureau on July 20 briefing, one case was diagnosed in Hebei Province to Beijing for treatment of patients infected with human H7N9 avian influenza confirmed cases.

      Langfang City, Hebei Province, Zhang patient, female, aged 61, on July 10 in patients with cough, fever and other symptoms, July 13, the patient received treatment in Langfang City, a community hospital, July 14, received treatment in China Pipeline Bureau, Langfang General Hospital, diagnosed with severe pneumonia, symptomatic treatment without improvement. At at 14:38 on July 18 by the local 120 referral to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. July 20, the Beijing Municipal Center for Disease Control laboratory review, test results for the H7N9 avian influenza virus nucleic acid positive. The Beijing municipal expert for consultation in this case, the diagnosis of the human cases of avian influenza confirmed cases of H7N9 infection. The patient in critical condition, are Beijing active treatment.

      After receiving the report, the Health Department of Hebei Province attaches great importance to immediately dispatched charge rushed to the local Office of the leadership and expert guidance to assist in epidemic emergency work; studying and implementing various measures to deal with the epidemic; organize experts to carry out risk assessments, analyzing the epidemic situation. Currently, Langfang city health departments are in accordance with the requirements of my Office, continue to implement tracing close contacts of patients and medical observation, surveillance and other emergency measures.
