A new case of human infection with H7N9 avian influenza has been confirmed in the Chinese province of Hunan (center-south), local authorities said on Tuesday. The 39-year-old patient is hospitalized in Xiangxiang. The live poultry trade has been suspended in the city, according to local authorities. The H7N9 virus is an avian influenza strain whose first human case was reported in March 2013 in China. Winter and spring are the seasons most conducive to the emergence of this disease.
