    Center for health protection received notification from the Guangdong health planning Committee, added 3 new cases of human infection with avian influenza (H7N9) cases and 3 persons to chronic diseases, Chaozhou, respectively, involved a 60-year old woman, 59 years old man and Ju Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, aged 76. Since 13, mainland health authorities have informed the 707 H7N9 infection cases. Center, in view of the seasonal prevalence and risk assessment by the Department shows that avian influenza virus activity, is expected to be maintained at a high level in the winter months, the Centre will continue to monitor the latest developments and global avian influenza and urged members of the public, whether in local or travel during should observe good personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times.

    Guangdong H7N9 cases reported

    The Centre for Health Protection has learned of three new human cases of avian influenza A (H7N9) in Guangdong, involving one man and two women.

    The patients, aged 59 to 76, are from Chaozhou, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing. All have underlying illnesses.

    A total of 707 human cases of H7N9 have been reported by Mainland health authorities since 2013.

    The centre reminded people not to visit live poultry markets and farms and to avoid contact with poultry, birds and their droppings.

      The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (February 18) received notification of three additional human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) from the Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province, and again urged the public to maintain strict personal, food and environmental hygiene both locally and during travel.

      The three patients, all with underlying illnesses, comprise a 60-year-old woman who lives in Chaozhou, a 59-year-old man who lives in Jiangmen and a 76-year-old woman who lives in Zhaoqing.
