Suspected H7N9 poultry buried in Vientiane province

    By Vinnaly

(KPL) Vientiane authorities have recently buried 860 kg of poultry suspected to bear H7N9 bird flu virus which had been smuggled from Luang Prabang province to prevent the possible outbreak of the deadly virus.

Local officials said poultry parts worth 24 million kip were seized while they were transported with a truck en route to Vientiane Capital.

Deputy Head of the Vientiane Provincial Fisheries and Livestock Extension Department, Mr. Saythong Phimbao said he was tipped off by a good citizen on 29 April that there would be the smuggling of poultry from Luang Prabang province to Vientiane Capital.

"Correspondingly, our vets conducted a random inspection on vehicles passing by. Throughout the inspection of a suspected truck, our vets have found uncooked ducks and duck meat totally weighing 860 kilos.

"These poultry parts have been found without documents showing place of origin and event relevant documents attached,"said Saythong.

Officials said they found the poultry parts wrapped and labelled in Chinese language, and then they took them to destroy to prevent the potential outbreak of deadly virus in the province and its neighbours.

"People should be cautious when buying and consuming poultry. Avoid buying poultry if its place of origin is not identified," Saythong advised.

Has the poultry meat tested for H7N9 virus?

Have the results been notified to OIE/FAO/WHO?

      Is propaganda only activity?
