CHP closely monitors two human cases of avian influenza A(H5N6) in Mainland
    ************************************************** *************

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is today (September 30) closely monitoring two human cases of avian influenza A(H5N6) in the Mainland, and again urged the public to maintain strict personal, food and environmental hygiene both locally and during travel.

The first case involves a 55-year-old man living in Guilin in Guangxi, who had prior exposure to a live poultry market before the onset of symptoms. He developed symptoms on August 23, and was admitted for treatment on August 30. The patient is in serious condition.

The second case involves a 72-year-old man living in Chongqing Municipality, who had contact with sick poultry before onset. He developed symptoms on September 16, and was admitted for treatment on September 19. The patient has passed away.

From 2014 to date, 47 human cases of avian influenza A(H5N6) have been reported by Mainland health authorities...

This is a lot of cases for China to admit to. I am wondering if they are reporting these as a smoke screen for what is going on with COVID-19? And why all the power outages and port slow downs?

      Not normal patterns.

In the autumn and winter seasons, influenza is a high-incidence period, especially in places that frequently enter and exit poultry breeding areas, and are more susceptible to infection.

Recently, a man in Guilin was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment because he was infected with H5N6 avian influenza.

A few days ago, after a 53-day "long-distance race" contest with the H5N6 avian influenza virus at the door of the first ward of the Critical Care Medicine Department of Guilin People's Hospital , the patient Mr. Wang finally recovered and was discharged. On the day of discharge, Mr. Wang presented a pennant to the medical staff of the department and took a group photo.

        Event review

Mr. Wang is 55 years old this year. After having a fever for 8 days and a cough for 1 day, accompanied by headaches and sore limbs and joints, he went to Guilin People's Hospital for treatment by himself. The patient had a history of frequent contact with poultry in the vegetable market before the onset of illness .

After admission, the patient's examination revealed that the right lower lobe and left lung pneumonia were diagnosed as acquired pneumonia. The initial anti-infective treatment was not effective, suggesting that the lung lesions were enlarged, and he was transferred to the first ward of the Intensive Medicine Department for further treatment.

"Patients with secondary respiratory failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome , tracheal intubation ventilator assisted breathing, hypoxia with pure oxygen support did not improve, considering the possibility of viral pneumonia." said Chen Runqi, director of the first ward of the Department of Critical Care Medicine: " On the 9th day of admission, after the sputum of the patient was sequenced for pathogen genes and nucleic acid PCR detection, it was confirmed that the patient was avian influenza A H5N6 virus."

After active antiviral treatment and a series of complications, the patient turned negative on the 39th day of admission in the sputum test for influenza A nucleic acid, and the tracheotomy tube was successfully removed on the 42nd day, relying entirely on spontaneous breathing. On the 43rd day, he was transferred to the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. After a period of specialist consolidation treatment, the CT lesions in the lungs were rechecked for further absorption and relief, and he was discharged on the 53rd day....
