Two cases of H5N6 avian influenza and one person reported no contact with live poultry
Hong Kong time September 20 (Mon) 14:45 T

Two cases of H5N6 avian influenza occurred in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from February to July this year. The patients were from Guilin City and Hechi City. They were a 50-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman. Poultry history. Related papers were published in the Weekly Report of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention last Saturday (18th).

The paper explained that the male patient had rheumatoid arthritis for more than 10 years. He became ill on February 16 this year. The symptoms included fever, chest tightness, shortness of breath, headache, cough, sputum, and pneumonia. He had contact with poultry 9 days before the onset. He died on March 2. The female patient has a history of chronic gastritis. She developed fever on July 6 this year and was diagnosed with H5N6 6 days later, but she denied contact with live poultry.

The report believes that H5N6 has replaced H5N1 as the main avian influenza virus in southern China. In addition, the two cases were both over 50 years old, again supporting the claim that the elderly are more susceptible to avian influenza. However, due to the lack of samples of poultry from the infection environment and living environment of the two patients, the above study has certain limitations.
