Two new cases of human infection with H5N6

The Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health is closely monitoring Guangxi and China today (August 6) Two new cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H5N6) have been reported in Sichuan.
The first case involved a 61-year-old woman living in Guilin, Guangxi. She had been to a live poultry market before she became ill. She developed symptoms on July 6 and was admitted to the hospital for treatment on July 9. She was in stable condition.
The second case involved a 65-year-old woman living in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, who had been in contact with dead and sick poultry before becoming ill. She developed symptoms on July 13 and was admitted to the hospital on the same day for treatment in a critical condition.
Since 2014, Chinese health authorities have notified a total of 37 cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H5N6).
