China's new cases of H5N6 and H9N2 Hunan and other 4 provinces are recommended to be upgraded to "alert"

China has added 1 H5N6 and 6 H9N2 influenza cases. Among them, the H5N6 case occurred in Ningyuan County, Hunan Province. Since the source of infection may be the live poultry market, all farmer’s markets in this county will be closed on December 20. my country's Ministry of Health and Welfare's Disease Management Agency has listed Hunan Province's recommended level of tourism epidemic as the second level: Alert. The 6 cases of H9N2 were all mild and came from Hubei, Guizhou, Guangxi, Henan, Hunan and other provinces. On December 28, Guizhou, Guangxi and Henan provinces were also upgraded to the second level: Alert.

Guo Hongwei, deputy director of the Epidemic Center of the CDC, explained that one H5N6 case was in stable condition, but was still being treated in the intensive care unit and close contacts were being monitored. In addition, the WHO announced that China reported 6 cases of H9N2 influenza on December 9, of which 1 case in Hubei Province had an onset date in July 2019, and the remaining 5 cases had an onset date between June and November 2020, and were aged 8 months. Until the age of 52, they are all mildly ill and have no cluster infections; the country has accumulated 12 cases so far this year, and a total of 41 cases since 2015.

The domestic enterovirus epidemic situation is slowly rising. Guo Hongwei pointed out that last week, the number of enterovirus outpatient and emergency clinic visits was about 6,340, an increase of 1.2% from the previous week. The recent predominant enterovirus epidemic situation is expected to be flat in the coming week. The number of domestic influenza-like consultations was 35,699 last week, which was the same as the previous week. Currently, respiratory fusion virus, herpes simplex virus and adenovirus are mainly circulating. As of this season, there are no confirmed cases of severe influenza.

Due to the imminent cold snap, the influenza-like epidemic is expected to rise slowly. The Department of Disease Control urges the elderly over 65 and preschool children and other high-risk groups of influenza to be vaccinated as soon as possible. As of December 27, the total number of publicly funded influenza vaccine vaccination was about 5.917 million doses, the vaccination rate for elderly people over 65 was 51.3%, and the vaccination rate for preschool children was 48.9%.

This week coincides with the New Year’s Eve and consecutive holidays and the temperature drops sharply. The CDC reminds that in addition to getting the flu vaccine, the public should also practice good hygiene practices such as frequent hand washing and cough etiquette; when going out, maintain 1.5 meters indoors and 1 meter outdoors. If you cannot maintain a social distance of more than one foot, you should wear a mask; if you are sick and unwell, try to rest at home to reduce the risk of respiratory virus transmission.
