After confirmed by the National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory, broiler chickens raised by a farmer in Shuangqing District of Shaoyang City had an H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak. The number of broiler chickens kept by the farmers was 7,850, and 4,500 died.
