    According to information released by the Mainland Health Authority, one (1) new confirmed case of human infection with H7N9 avian influenza virus in Yunnan Province was reported in a 64-year-old male farmer, who lives in the city of Kunming. On November 21, the patient manifested the symptoms and on November 26 was hospitalized and was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Before the presentation of symptoms, he had contact with dead birds. A further confirmed case of human infection with H9N2 avian influenza virus was also recorded in another region of Hunan Province. In this situation the infection was detected in a 20-month-old female child, who lives in Changsha city. On November 27, the patient manifested mild symptoms and had contact with birds before presenting symptoms. Since September 2017, H7N9 avian influenza virus infections have been recorded in several provinces, including: Jiangsu Province, Liaoning Province, Hunan Province and Yunnan Province. The Health Services will continue to maintain close communication with the national and neighboring health departments and the World Health Organization to monitor the epidemic of Macao from other regions. Through interdepartmental cooperation and public and private organizations, they are engaged in prevention and preparedness work against a possible outbreak of avian influenza in neighboring regions or in Macao. The Health Services call on citizens to pay attention and take the following steps: ● Avoid moving to markets, farms and other places where there is sale or exposure of birds with cases of human infection with H7N9 avian influenza; ● Avoid contact with birds, their secretions and excrement and, in case of contact, wash their hands immediately; ● Do not buy or transport unverified birds; ● Avoid consuming meat, offal, blood products and eggs from poorly cooked poultry; ● Pay attention to personal hygiene and frequent washing of hands; ● In case of symptoms of fever, cough and breathing difficulties, among others, you should wear a mask and go to the doctor as soon as possible and should tell you in detail the history of travel and contact with animals.
