  • France - 2 new cases of chikungunya in the Var

This Thursday, September 21, the Paca Regional Health Agency announced two new cases of chikungunya in the department.

Friday, September 15, an outbreak with two cases of chikungunya has been identified in the commune of Taradeau.

Placed in level 3 of the anti-vector fighting plan, the Var had a precedent on August 11, in Cannet-des-Maures, where nine people had been contaminated with the virus.

"At this stage, there is no link confirmed between these cases and the cases in Cannet-des-Maures ", specifies the ARS Paca in a statement, before continuing" The operations of mosquito control are in progress. These actions are accompanied by a campaign to inform the population through door-to-door and the distribution of brochures. At the same time, epidemiological surveillance is strengthened to identify any infected person and prevent transmission of the virus. "

    ECDC comment:

On 20 September, France reported a new cluster of two confirmed cases in Taradeau commune, which is 13 kilometres away from Cannet-des-Maures. The two cases are from the same family and aged 25 and 65 years. Onset of symptoms were on 7 and 9 September. The spatio-temporal proximity of the clusters would indicate that the two clusters are related.
