CAY HILL--Prime Minister and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Chairperson Silveria Jacobs disclosed during a press conference on Friday that three healthcare workers are among the 73 total cases of coronavirus COVID-19 in St. Maarten.
Jacobs did not announce the country’s latest coronavirus figures on Friday. Government was awaiting pending results of tests that had been sent to Institute Pasteur in Guadeloupe...

Ten of the 13 COVID-19 deaths were immigrants who reported illness late

PHILIPSBURG--Ten of the thirteen persons who passed away from the coronavirus COVID-19 in St. Maarten were from the immigrant community, some of them undocumented with pre-existing conditions, who reported their illness to authorities late.
Prime Minister and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Chairperson Silveria Jacobs provided the information during the live virtual Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday in response to a question.
“The persons who passed away had major underlying health issues and a vast majority of them – 10 of the 13 – were from the immigrant population which, let’s just be honest, some of them live in not-so-good circumstances and maybe not eating the healthiest foods,” Jacobs said. “Some were also undocumented and did not alert CPS [Collective Prevention Services – Ed.] or a doctor in time. I believe had this been done in the early stages of the disease, we might not have had the 13 deaths.”...

St. Maarten: Active COVID-19 cases down to 2; self quarantine cases stands at 64

The num?ber of active COVID-19 cases in the country dropped to two as of Tuesday, while the number of persons in self quarantine went up to 64 with three additional per?sons added, figures released by government shows.
According to the figures, as of Tuesday, May 26, there were 4 persons in self-iso?lation (persons with symp?toms); 447 (+3) tested; 77 positive cases; 367 (+2) neg?ative cases; two pending test results; one inconclusive; 15 deceased; 60 recovered; two in the isolation facility and two active cases."The only security we have is our ability to adapt."
