The number of deaths continues to rise due to influenza, the Minsa confirms 23 deaths

Dr. Yadira Molt? of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that to date there are 23 deaths due to influenza in the country. Only in Chiriqu?, there were 14 deaths, 10 of children and 4 of adults, one of the cases was imported from Brazil and the rest of the capital and the province of Veraguas. Influenza is an infectious disease, acute and contagious, caused by a virus, which attacks the respiratory tract and produces fever, headache and a general feeling of malaise. Molt? detailed that so far in 2019, there have been three thousand cases of respiratory viruses, including influenza virus, adenovirus, syncytial virus and others. There have been cases where a patient is coinfected, that is, they have two viruses, and they do not have any vaccinations, thus complicating the recovery process.

Minsa confirm 29 deaths due to influenza virus

So far in 2019, the epidemiological monitoring and surveillance system of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) has confirmed 29 deaths due to the influenza virus in the country. Dr. Lourdes Moreno, head of the Department of Epidemiology indicated that of these 29 cases, 28 are native and one (1) imported, mostly with a history of chronic disease, association with another viral infection and unvaccinated or partially vaccinated patients against the virus. Moreno explained that the ages most affected are children under 5 years old and older adults. He reiterated that the vaccine 'protects and saves lives' against the 4 H3N2 viruses, H1N1 and 2 strains, it should be placed every year, because the subtypes that circulate vary from year to year and from one region to another.

Increase to 34 deaths due to influenza in the country

A 34 increased the number of people killed by influenza A (H1N1) in the country. This was reported by the Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, who said that some of these new cases are the result of 'the lack of timely reports' from some hospitals. Turner urged hospital centers to make their reports at the right time so that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) can develop strategies on time and more deaths can be prevented. Data from the Minsa Epidemiological Surveillance System indicate that 33 deaths correspond to Panamanian residents and one is for an imported case. The five Health regions where the highest number of deaths due to influenza are recorded are: Ng?be Bugl?, Chiriqu?, Cocl?, Panama Metro and Bocas del Toro.

Confirm 36 deaths from influenza, Turner says they will take control of vaccine placement

The Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, reported Wednesday that the epidemiological monitoring and surveillance system has confirmed 36 deaths from the influenza virus in the country.

Turner said that most of the deaths were preventable, since they had vaccines against the virus, which the health authority managed through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO / WHO).

He said that the population must understand that not only is H1N1 circulating in the country, but also adenovirus that increases complications in only one person.
