CAREC receives 19 samples to test for H1N1

Despite our proximity to Mexico, the Influenza A H1N1 remained just a scare in Belize and was pushed to the backburner. But the virus is still being monitored by the Ministry of Health. In a release issued late Friday evening, the Ministry confirmed that Belize is still free of the virus. But concerns have been rising over a number of suspected cases in the Corozal Free Zone. And while the results of fifteen samples sent for testing at CAREC are pending, four additional samples were sent today. all the results are expected by the end of the week. The ministry continues to encourage the public to exercise precautionary measures including washing hands frequently, using tissue to cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing and cleaning door knobs, counters and other surfaces with disinfectant regularly.
