Evolution of the number of Covid-19 cases on the whole island for 5 weeks

The first confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Saint-Martin were declared in early March, they were parents who had stayed in Saint-Barth and cared for by the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center; as they had not stayed in Saint-Martin, they are not counted in the health report.

The first positive cases among the residents were confirmed on March 17, one in French and one in Dutch. Since then, 103 cases have been confirmed without counting the three tourists screened and hospitalized in the French part before being repatriated to their country. 68 of the cases are found in the Dutch part and 35 in the French part.

It was during the third week (March 30-April 5) that the number of cases exploded on the island with 44 positive patients identified (31 in Sint Maarten and 13 in Saint Martin).

The French side has accumulated a maximum of 13 cases per week (in week 3), a 1 more than the previous week. Then, the number of confirmed weekly cases fell, remaining below the bar of 5. However, we observe a slight recovery of cases last week (4 cases against 2 the previous week), this is why the authorities insist on the importance of continuing to adopt barrier gestures. Since the beginning of this week, a new case has been registered.

In the Dutch part, the number of positive cases has been 15 per week since the beginning of April. Since Monday, 4 have been recorded.

To date, almost half of the residents of the whole island who have been infected since March 17 are still carriers of the virus (38 in the Dutch part and 13 in the French part). 40% of infected patients are cured (22 in the Dutch part and 19 in the French part). The mortality rate is 12.6% with 13 deaths recorded (11 in the Dutch part and 2 in the French part). Today, the French side has more cured patients than active cases. In the Dutch part, more than half of the patients still carry the virus to this day.

St. Martin records third death from COVID-19

MARIGOT--Another death from COVID-19 was reported on Thursday by regional health authority ARS, bringing the death toll in St. Martin to three.

The deceased was a 76-year-old man who had other underlying health issues and passed away in the Guadeloupe hospital. He had been in hospital since April 7.

However, on a positive note, four patients have recovered in St. Martin and have been discharged, bringing total recoveries up to 25. Active cases are down to seven: five isolated at home and two in hospital (one of whom is in Guadeloupe).

Three patients were previously repatriated. Total reported cases since the outbreak began stand at 38.

MARIGOT--The Pr?fecture on Sunday repeated its call for “utmost vigilance” to avoid a resurgence of the coronavirus as two new confirmed COVID-19 cases and two probable cases were confirmed on Saturday.

“A new case was confirmed on Saturday which shows the persistence of sporadic cases occurring in the territory,” it said in a release. “In addition, a patient from the Dutch side was hospitalised last night [Saturday night – Ed.] at Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital, forcing the hospital to re-open the COVID unit. The two probable cases were also admitted yesterday [Saturday] to the same unit and are also awaiting results.”

According to the release, the Dutch side has eight active cases, including a new one on May 12, for a total of 77 cumulative cases and 15 deaths, compared to 40 cumulative cases and three deaths in French St. Martin since the beginning of the crisis. ..
