... The small island of Saint-Barth?lemy in the French West Indies, confined like the rest of France for almost twenty days, released two million euros on Saturday to have Covid-19 test all of its 10,000 inhabitants. The elected officials of this Overseas collectivity gathered in emergency on Saturday morning to carry out this project, which consists in buying, for the moment, four rapid screening machines by PCR (sampling by the nose), at 110,000 euros room. "The objective is to reassure the population and obtain from the government the lifting of confinement for Saint-Barth?lemy," explained the president of the Community Bruno Magras, who has run the island since 1995.

To date, Saint-Barth?lemy has identified six proven cases on its territory of 21 km2, four of which are now cured. The other two are confined to their homes and their state of health is not of concern. No case has been identified since March 26 ...

No new case in Saint-Barth, the results are rising in Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe and Martinique. Around the world, the epidemic is spreading.

No new confirmed case of Covid-19 in Saint-Barth?lemy since March 26. Today, two residents are confined to their homes and still carry the virus. The other four who were affected are cured: they underwent two negative income screening tests, 48 hours apart, to be sure. So good news.

LIBERAL DOCTORS HAVE IDENTIFIED 68 SUSPECTED CASES IN SIX WEEKS

              by Valentine Autruffe
              04/10/2020

Difficult, given the number of tests carried out (thirty to fifty in Saint-Barth since the start of the epidemic, including six positive) and the unknown of asymptomatic patients, to know to what extent the coronavirus circulates on the island. The fifteen liberal physicians keep a dashboard of the number of patients in whom they suspected contamination with Covid-19, without the test being carried out since the symptoms were not serious. Since the beginning of March and the first cases revealed on the island, they have counted 68 suspected cases.
Doctors on the island received, especially in the second half of March, numerous calls from residents complaining of symptoms of the coronavirus. Indicator of a spread, but perhaps also of an effect of fear. By dint of hearing about H24, we somatize ...
This figure of 68 suspected cases is of course to be taken with caution. But it is an indicator on the circulation of the virus in Saint-Barth. The main thing is that the island has not experienced any serious cases of the disease. It must also be said that comorbidity factors (diabetes, obesity, hypertension) are less widespread on our island than in Guadeloupe, for example; already, each winter during seasonal influenza epidemics, mortality is low in Saint-Barth?lemy compared to other territories.
A number of patients have also been screened for dengue fever, present on the island, certain symptoms of which are similar to those of Covid-19, notably fever, body aches, heavy fatigue. It is the presence of a dry cough that should worry about the virus.
Last week, calls have become scarce. Confined residents move very little and the Liberals see their cabinets deserted. They want to reassure their patients, and in particular those who, despite a chronic illness requiring follow-up, are reluctant to go to their attending physician. They recall that they wear protective equipment, and that all precautions are taken during consultations.

Coronavirus: swimming again authorized in Saint-Barth
                By Le Figaro with AFP
                Posted 11 hours ago

The small island of Saint-Barth?lemy, in the Antilles, decided Thursday April 16 to lift the ban on swimming after a month of confinement, despite the extension announced by Emmanuel Macron until May 11.

The 10,000 inhabitants can thus enjoy the turquoise waters of the dozen paradise beaches on the island, but always within the framework set by the government: you must check the "physical activity" box of the exit certificate, and do not swim more than an hour. Swimming trips must be done alone or with people sharing the same home.

The Overseas Collectivity specifies to its citizens that there must not be "a sustainable installation on the beach." We bathe and dry ourselves ”.

In Saint-Barth?lemy, swimming was initially prohibited by the prefect of Guadeloupe Philippe Gustin; but on this territory of 21 km?, few gatherings contrary to social distancing have been observed on the white sand. Some surfers were fined during the third week of confinement.

The Collectivity had also taken a decree to limit noisy vehicles, certain inhabitants of this small and dense territory complaining of jack hammers and other breakers while they were cloistered at home; this ban has also been relaxed.

Construction equipment can speak again from this Thursday, but only in the morning. A decision taken "in order to reconcile the need to maintain part of the economic activity with that of maintaining correct conditions of containment".

Saint-Barth?lemy released two million euros on April 4 to procure rapid Covid-19 screening test machines. The first of these machines, manufactured in the United States by the company Cepheid and sold 110,000 euros each, is due to arrive next week.

The objective of the Collectivity is to reassure the population by carrying out massive tests, and to be able to plead for an anticipated deconfinement, according to the results.

To date, the island, whose borders are almost hermetic, has identified six cases of Covid-19, four of which are now healed.

Emmanuel Macron validated the request of the President of the Collectivity, Bruno Magras and the Prefect of the Northern Islands, Sylvie Feucher, to apply a total deconfinement as of May 11. Saint-Barth?l?my has had no more active cases of Covid-19 since April 21 and no more new cases since March 26.

Thursday, April 30, elected officials and prefects from overseas met with the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, by videoconference in order to discuss the deconfinement hypotheses specific to each territory. For Saint-Barth?l?my, in the absence of new cases of Covid-19 since March 26 and without any more active case since April 21, the request expressed was that of a total deconfinement from May 11. Consequences, bars, restaurants, shops, will be able to restart their activity on this date, provided that the measures of distancing and gestures "barriers" are applied. Certain activities such as nightclubs could thus have stopped, distancing measures being difficult to implement. Another restriction, entries on the island will remain limited to the bare essentials.

"The precise procedures for the accelerated internal deconfinement will be specified in the coming days by the prefecture, the rectorate and the community." Bruno Magras, President of the Community

                        Soon, a screening campaign

Among these methods, a screening campaign soon to be carried out on the island. Thousand test cartridges arrived this Friday on the island, after receiving a week ago, a first automatic machine to process the tests (four machines have been bought by the community). A test protocol should be defined at the end of next week. Currently a PCR test drive has been set up at La Pointe by appointment and on medical prescription. The results are currently being analyzed by the Institut Pasteur in Guadeloupe. The audiences tested will be gradually extended, in particular to all people entering the island.

We listen to the details of Bruno Magras, President of the Community, interviewed by Ludivine Guiolet-Oulac:

                        Bruno Magras

For the record: a reservist doctor asked to return home
The experience was short lived. Arrived at the beginning of April to support the health professionals fighting against the coronavirus, a doctor from the health reserve had to resolve to leave Saint-Barth?l?my barely ten days later. According to the Journal de St-Barth, which relates this affair, his hasty departure is the result of an interview granted by the doctor from Savoie, to Dauphin? Lib?r?, a daily newspaper in the region. Under the title "In Saint-Barth, deconfinement begins thanks to chloroquine", the practitioner reveals that the number of cases of Covid-19 could have been limited thanks to the drug. However, it is only prescribed in France for very serious cases, and only in hospitals. The liberal doctors of Saint-Barth?l?my addressed a formal denial to the Dauphin? Lib?r?. The anonymity of his testimony did not save the reservist. Especially since he had also been accused of misconduct on the spot ...

Public health France has published its 5th epidemiological point on the Covid-19 epidemic in Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands. This epidemiological update, based on the analysis of several sources of surveillance data, shows a low viral circulation with few new biological confirmations in recent weeks in Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth?lemy, despite considerable acceleration of tests available outside the hospital.
Since the appearance of the first confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth?lemy, a decrease in daily confirmations has been recorded since April 8 in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin. In Saint-Barth?lemy, the last case was confirmed on March 26.
A total of 154 cases were confirmed biologically by PCR in Guadeloupe, 38 in Saint-Martin and 6 in Saint-Barth?lemy. The origin of the contamination of the cases is documented thanks to the epidemiological investigations of Public Health France with each confirmed case.
