Report 9,118 cases and 260 deaths from COVID-19 in Panama

PANAMA, May 14 (Xinhua) - Panamanian health authorities reported on Wednesday the increase to 9,118 in cases and 260 in deaths of people with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 in Panama.
The director of the Epidemiology department of the Ministry of Health, Lourdes Moreno, pointed out in a press conference that the balance shows 174 new cases and four more deaths compared to the previous year.
Of the total reported cases, 2,422 people are in home isolation, and of these 737 are treated in hotels.
The number of recovered meanwhile amounts to 6,080.
The official information also shows that there are 356 hospitalized patients, of whom 284 are in the ward and 72 are in intensive care units.
Of the total of 46,898 tests carried out to confirm or rule out COVID-19, 77 percent were negative and 23 percent positive.
The government specified that 10,961 tests have been carried out per million inhabitants.
The statistics show that by age the greatest number of cases has been in the ranges of 20 years to 39 years, with 3,841; from 40 years to 59 years, with 3,154; and from 60 years to 79 years, with 1,102.
Regarding deaths, the highest incidence has been in the age ranges of 40 years to 59 years, with 55; from 60 years to 79 years, with 125; and in those over 80 years of age, with 61.
