Observatory records more than 500 new suspected cases of covid-19 in one week
    official silence covid-19

Recent report from the Citizen Observatory indicates that in the last week there was an increase of 62% in new cases reported throughout the country
    confidential.com.ni
    May 16, 2020

The independent Citizen Observatory covid-19 raised 233 deaths and 1270 suspected cases of said disease in Nicaragua, whose government recognizes only 25 cases and eight deaths, since the pandemic officially entered the country in mid-March.

According to that Observatory, which independently locates cases of covid-19 not recognized by the authorities, the number of people infected with the SARS-coV-2 coronavirus increased from 765 to 1,270 in the last week, that is, 505 new suspected cases for 62% increase.

Managua, with 628 suspected cases, is the department with the highest incidence of this disease, followed by Chinandega (106), Masaya (102), Matagalpa (81), Granada (54), Estel? (39) and Le?n (34), according to The report.

The Observatory, which does not report confirmed cases because only the Government has access to covid-19 tests, has verified 266 deaths, of which 33 are categorized as deaths from pneumonia and 233 as suspected deaths from covid-19.

"Managua and Chinandega report the highest number of deaths," he said.

Likewise, the Observatory said that it received reports from 154 health workers with associated or presumptive symptoms of covid-19. Also that organizations and family members alerted that 37 political prisoners present associated or presumptive symptoms of SARS-coV-2, and one of them, Uriel P?rez, is hospitalized and intubated in a public hospital.

    Alarm in Chinandega

For the Observatory, the situation in the department of Chinandega continues to generate alarm, as they report 106 people affected, 40 deaths from pneumonia and suspected by COVID-19, as well as 23 health workers with symptoms.

Medical sources told CONFIDENCIAL that in the Spain hospital in Chinandega, they have infected: "surgeons, gynecologists, laboratory workers, nurses, interns, orthopedists and basic doctors."

The hospital director, the deputy director, the director of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and the head of Nursing, according to sources, are also positive cases.

"In Chinandega, morbidity conditions, particularly kidney deficiencies, are a health problem that increases the population's vulnerability to covid-19," the Observatory warned.

    Clandestine burials

The Observatory indicated that clandestine burials or deaths without informing the family were reported in five of the 15 departments and two autonomous regions of the country, most frequently in Chinandega.

"Nighttime and clandestine burials cannot continue to be state policy. Families have the right to live a dignified grief, "recommended that group.

The Ministry of Health, he added, should not coerce medical personnel to commit a crime by not issuing truthful death certificates.

"We remind the Nicaraguan State of its responsibility to guarantee the human and constitutional right to health, and guarantee the right to information," he added.

The Observatory urged the authorities to provide information on the epidemic in accordance with international standards.
    Lethality index

As of Tuesday, Nicaragua accumulated 25 confirmed cases, with eight deaths, for a case fatality rate of 32%, the highest in America, according to official figures.

The Executive has been criticized by various sectors for promoting massive events and agglomerations against the current recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), and for not establishing restrictions or suspending classes in the midst of the pandemic.

President Daniel Ortega has declared himself against the # Qu?dateEnCasa campaign because, in his opinion, it would destroy the local economy that has contracted in the last two years and is largely informal.

He has also described the confinement and suspension of international flights as "extreme measures" and "radical", and has said that his government will maintain "normal activities".

Official data of COVID-19 soars in Nicaragua, in the last week
      Drafting
      05/19/2020 22:02

Managua, May 19 (EFE) - Official data from COVID-19 in Nicaragua shot up in the last week, as the number of confirmed cases went from 25 to 254, and the death toll from 8 to 17, according to a report issued this Tuesday by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

The official report, read this afternoon before official media by the Minister of Health, Martha Reyes, indicates that the number of citizens infected with the SARS-coV-2 coronavirus, which causes the condition of COVID-19, went from one every two days to almost 33 a day, and the death toll rose from one a week to more than one a day.

The official report of deaths by COVID-19 did not include "other deaths of people who have been followed up, due to pulmonary thromboembolism, diabetes mellitus, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis, and bacterial pneumonia," said the minister, who did not reveal these figures.

On the eve, President Daniel Ortega had admitted that his government includes data on deaths from COVID-19 within pneumonia statistics.

This was the first time that the Government of Nicaragua admitted three-digit figures in the number of people infected with COVID-19, and two-digit figures in the number of deaths from said disease, despite the fact that Ortega refuses to follow the recommendations. of the World Health Organization (WHO), arguing that priority should be given to the economy.

Official figures contrasted with those of the independent Citizen Observatory COVID-19, which this morning reported at least 351 pandemic-related deaths, as well as 1,594 cases.

Ortega's handling of the pandemic in Nicaragua has been criticized, both inside and outside the country, not only for the paucity and clarity of information about the new coronavirus, but also for refusing to establish restrictions and take preventive measures, as well as for promoting agglomeration activities, attended by the Sandinistas, who are then sent on house-to-house visits.

The situation in Nicaragua has caused concern between the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Organization of American States (OAS), according to their representatives.

Ortega has been called by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to guarantee the right to health. EFE

Police chief dies and burial raises suspicions of COVID-19
Relatives maintain that he died of heart problems, but was buried without honors by the Police that supports the official speech of "normality"
        EFE
        May 21, 2020

The head of Public Security of the Nicaraguan National Police, Olivio Hern?ndez, died this Thursday amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and his immediate burial has raised suspicions that he was a victim of the disease.

Although the family members insisted that Hern?ndez died of heart problems, the controversy was caused by the circumstances of the burial, which did not correspond to those of a chief of the National Police, an institution that supports President Daniel Ortega's speech, based on minimizing the pandemic.

General Commissioner of the Police and founding member, took over as head of Public Security in January 2019. He was also second head of the National Police in the South Caribbean.

Hern?ndez rose to fame in Nicaragua in 2018, after Ortega promoted him to head of Public Security, after having a decisive role in armed attacks against opponents, which left dozens of dissidents dead, including children, in the city of Masaya ( Pac?fico), after the indigenous community of Monimb? declared it “dictator's free territory”.

Comments from people who celebrated Hern?ndez's death could be observed on social networks, as has happened with Sandinista militants, indicated by paramilitaries, who supposedly died from COVID-19, after participating in the agglomeration activities promoted by the Government.

A baseball coach and a priest

This same morning died, also in the city of Masaya, the baseball player Carlos Aranda, a member of the San Fernando baseball team, of the Nicaraguan First Division, who since the weekend had been intubated and with symptoms of COVID-19, according to league sources.

Aranda was one of three San Fernando members served by COVID-19, out of a total of nine who suffered from the symptoms, despite which the league refused the club's request not to play last weekend.

For its part, the Diocese of Le?n, in northwestern Nicaragua, mourned the death of the priest Bismark Acevedo, who, according to the Catholic community of the Santiago Ap?stol de Telica parish, under his administration, had symptoms of COVID-29.

Acevedo was known in Nicaragua as one of the priests who risked his life to save the lives of hundreds of opponents, during the 2018 armed attacks, by the combined government forces against protesters.

Official data indicates that the pandemic has left 279 cases in Nicaragua, with 17 deaths. The COVID-19 Citizen Observatory, which enjoys greater credibility among doctors and scientists, has reported 1,594 patients and 351 deaths.

Ortega's handling of the pandemic has drawn criticism, due to the lack of restrictions and preventive measures, as well as the scarce and confusing information on the situation in Nicaragua.

The Nicaraguan regime challenges COVID-19 with 2,500 activities over the weekend
          By EFE
          May 24, 2020
          Updated: May 24, 2020

The Nicaraguan regime challenged the pandemic of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the new coronavirus this weekend, by organizing more than 2,500 activities, including fairs, competitions and trainings, yesterday Saturday and Sunday, according to the official information.

The activities developed despite the fact that the contagion curve began to show a drastic growth in May, and the number of deaths seems to multiply exponentially.

One of the most popular activities was the celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Masaya volcano as a National Park, located 23 kilometers southeast of Managua, witnessed by dozens of people, who shared music, dances and a walk around the crater.

Gastronomic fairs, as well as small and medium businessmen, opened their doors in several cities, some of which had a certain turnout, although in others more merchants than buyers came, according to comments from some attendees.

The sports competitions attracted more spectators than the fairs, in the disciplines of baseball, boxing, motorcycles or boating, organized in different departments (provinces) of Nicaragua.

Among the agglomeration activities organized by the regime were various trainings for businessmen and teachers, delivery of property titles, and inaugurations of state works, such as the remodeling of schools or the opening of roads.
          critics

The organization of activities that promote the gathering of dozens of people, by the regime, has been criticized by doctors and scientists from Nicaragua, because it does not correspond to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), to prevent the spread of the CCP virus.

Along with the agglomerations, the regime refuses to establish restrictions, and only admits minimal preventive measures, given that the dictator Daniel Ortega has indicated that the priority is to sustain the country's economy.

International organizations such as the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (Acnudh), and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), have asked Ortega to guarantee the right to health, without success.

The World Health Organization (WHO), like the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the Organization of American States (OAS), have expressed concern about the situation in Nicaragua.

According to the regime, 279 people have been infected and 17 have died from the pandemic. Meanwhile, the independent Citizen Observatory COVID-19 reports at least 2,323 cases and 465 deaths.

Minsa says there are 759 cases of Covid-19 in Nicaragua
            By Laprensa.com.ni
            - May 26, 2020

Managua Nicaragua. 05/18/2020. The Press makes a tour of the population in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in state institutions, streets, banks, hospitals and public cemeteries. The government does not decree quarantine or social isolation, but despite its passivity, the population takes its own measures to prevent the spread of the powerful corona virus. Oscar Navarrete / LA PRENSA.

Managua, May 26 (Laprensa.ccom.ni) .- The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Tuesday that 480 cases of coronavirus were registered in the last week, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 759.

The Secretary General of the Minsa, Carlos S?enz, also assured that in the week of May 19-26, 18 people died from Covid-19, so the total death toll is 35. ?Other deaths occurred in people who have been under follow-up due to pulmonary thromboembolism, diabetes mellitus, acute myocardial infarction, hypertensive crisis and bacterial pneumonia, "said the Secretary of Health but did not provide figures.

"During the current week, which runs from May 19 to 26, we have attended and given responsible and careful follow-up to 480 Nicaraguans with Covid-19 confirmed or probable by clinic," said S?enz. These 480 people join the 279 that were confirmed until May 19 in the country, the last day that the Minsa provided its report on the situation of the pandemic in Nicaragua.

"From the start of the pandemic until today, we have attended and given responsible and careful follow-up to 885 people," said the official.

More recovered in a short time

According to the report, until this May 26, the Minsa affirms that 370 Nicaraguans have recovered from the disease. In other words, between May 19 and 26, 171 people were cured of coronaviruses.

As of May 19, the recoveries were 199, however that figure does not correspond to the time of exposure of a person to Covid-19, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The onset of symptoms takes about five to six days, but the total incubation period is fourteen days. Which means that it is impossible for a person to be cured in a week.

The Minsa also continues without clearly reporting that there is community contagion in the country. S?enz limited himself to saying that "cases have been presented in outbreaks through clearly established contacts."

However, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) already stipulates in its reports that Nicaragua is clearly in the phase of community transmission of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Managua, June 2 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Health (Minsa) of Nicaragua reported today that between May 26 and June 2, 359 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in this country and that 11 people died victims of that disease.

From the weekly report read by Dr. Carlos S?enz, secretary general of the health agency, a total of 1,118 infections and 46 fatalities have been recorded throughout Nicaragua due to the epidemic caused by the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The official also indicated that to date 691 Nicaraguans have recovered from the disease, although he did not specify the number of patients who are currently admitted, nor how the infections occurred.

It did specify, however, that the vast majority of people who tested positive for the pathogen or are considered suspicious have several comorbidities.

Among the most frequent, he mentioned diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, heart disease, immunodeficiency syndromes, chronic kidney failure, morbid obesity, a history of strokes, pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic lung diseases.

According to part of this last week, the average number of Covid-19 cases in Nicaragua dropped to 50 daily, compared to almost 70 that were detected between May 16 and 26, which could indicate a decrease in the curve. of infected.

However, the number of tests carried out by health authorities, the number of cases by area, as well as other data necessary to know the true impact of the disease in this nation, the most extensive in the Central American isthmus, is still unknown.

The figures of this Tuesday place Nicaragua as the third State in the region with the most cases and deaths of Covid-19, ahead of Costa Rica ((thousand 18-10) and Belize (18-2).

Government hides numbers, to claim victory over covid-19
Dr. ?lvaro Ram?rez warns of risk of flare-ups: Minsa will continue lowering infections so that FSLN supporters go to the plaza on July 19
                        Iv?n Olivares
                        June 15, 2020

The covid-19 under-registry maintained by the Ministry of Health in Nicaragua aims to artificially keep the case-fatality rate low, while seeking to draw a normal environment that serves to convince supporters of the Sandinista Front that it is safe to go to the plaza on July 19, to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the Revolution, says epidemiologist ?lvaro Ram?rez

The truth is that, while the Ministry of Health indicates that the number of infections and deaths is decreasing, every week, more than a hundred people die in hospitals due to covid-19, while different unions begin to report the death of Your partners.

"The case of the case fatality rate - which is now 4% - was something that worried them and they quickly corrected it. On May 19 they released the report that jumped to 254 cases, in order to lower the case fatality rate, which was 32%. The highest in the world! ”Said epidemiologist ?lvaro Ram?rez, when interviewed in the program Esta Semana, which is only broadcast online, due to the censorship of the Government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

"They found out about the mathematical error they were making and decided to start correcting it, inflating the number of cases and reducing the number of deaths," he added.

According to the weekly reports of the Minsa, the number of new confirmed cases decreased from the 480 it was three weeks ago, to 359 fifteen days ago, to leave it at 346 last Tuesday.

The number of new deaths also falls week by week. If 21 days ago, 18 more deaths were reported than in the previous one, fifteen days ago only eleven deaths were added to the count, and last Tuesday, only nine.

"What we can expect from the report on Tuesday is that they are going to continue lowering it, because they need to appear to have little circulation of coronaviruses for the celebrations and crowds on July 19," said Dr. Ram?rez.

The expert estimates that this handling of the figures may be linked to the desire to be able to say during the celebration of July 19, that the country is normal, that everything is under control, and even "to decree the victory over the covid- 19, on top of all the corpses and all the Nicaraguans who are getting sick. ”

Instead, the expert predicts the exact opposite will happen. "The high circulation of the virus in the country will generate a regrowth, a very strong rebound, especially for those families that participate in these agglomerations."

He recalled that, more than a theory, this is a thesis that supporters of Danielism are already checking. “They are their same militants, their same paramilitaries, their same deputies, they are the same people who participate in these activities, the first who have begun to die. There is simply no respect for the right to life of Nicaraguans, "he lamented.

                        Virus has no political preference

Although the intention of projecting an artificial case fatality rate of only 4% to the world is to be able to compare it with the international community (data from the covid-19 Citizen Observatory places that rate at 28.1%), Ram?rez assures that there is no way to compare the numbers of the Minsa with those of any responsible country.

“All of these are mathematical processes that the Ministry of Health does so that the average case fatality rate in Nicaragua is normal. The international rate for coronavirus is less than 2%, "so that 4% would make Nicaragua within the average, Ram?rez said.

However, there is no way to compare Nicaragua's approach with that of the rest of the world, because “those countries are facing a health problem that affects all citizens, regardless of their political color, race, or religious creed, and that It is happening here: they have died from all sectors, including people from the government, deputies, ministers, "he explained.

The view that this was a real international health problem “did not apply in Nicaragua. The thesis was applied that the covid was something of the puchitos, of the right-wing coup, and nothing was going to be done to make these people die. They did not realize that this virus does not respect themselves. The difference is in the epidemiological principle of how to deal with it, "said Ram?rez.

Defining it as a political problem that would only affect the right, "with the vision that the right must be treated subhumanly and left to die ... it was decided to do nothing and not take the risk assessments requested by PAHO, nor the epidemiological health plan, or public health policies ... because it was defined as a political problem of the coup plotters, "he repeated.

                        Epidemiological Bulletin Suspended

Ram?rez offered another proof of the prevailing mentality in the ranks of the oficialismo, remembering that, when the epidemic began, there was free access to epidemiological bulletins, which allowed us to see the behavior of diseases such as malaria and dengue, until the Government discovered that such public information could be used as a weapon against them.

"The easiest thing was to suspend it, and since they are not obliged to give that information to the people, and they have no health communication strategy to guide and benefit the Nicaraguan people, they simply suspended the epidemiological bulletin," he recalled.

The result is that "we will continue blindly, without knowing where we are as a country, with the epidemic spreading throughout the national territory," he predicted.

The government operates entirely outside the framework of international health regulation, and does what it wants with the numbers. Trying to understand what their logic is is very difficult ", so Nicaragua lives" a reality at three levels: what the Government reports. What the Observatory reports, and the reality of the suffering of the people in the houses, "he explained.

                        The decline in hospitals

The epidemiologist also explained that the decrease in the number of hospitalized and killed by covid-19 in hospitals does not mean that the epidemic is receding, a conclusion that cannot be reached until there is "at least three or four weeks of continuous descent ”.

"It is absolutely normal," that there are less intense weeks than others, he explained.

“There are weeks when it goes down a little bit, and it lets the staff rest, but then it goes back up. Epidemiologically speaking, that is the normal behavior of the covid, but we must be prepared, because this epidemic has not passed, and we have not yet reached its peak, but we are approaching it, "he warned.

An additional reason to understand why there are fewer covid-19 sufferers in hospitals is that citizens have already given up on the belief that they will find the care they need in those places.

“At the beginning, the population believed that hospitals and health centers would solve the problem and that they could attend to them appropriately, but over time they realized the quality of the service, in addition to the fact that in each hospital there are political commissioners who decide who who receive services and who do not, "he described.

He explains that people began to understand that it was useless to take their patient to the hospital, where they would give him the prescription to look for medicines and the rest of the medical equipment, and that many of them did not see their relative alive again, with the Aggravating that they do not even have the certainty that they have buried their client –and not a stranger- because they are delivered in a black bag, without knowing if the person in the box is their relative or not.

"People are changing the dynamics: instead of being sacrificed in front of the gates, of being in a room with a lot of people becoming more infected with covid, they have decided to stay at home to attend to mild and moderate cases," he clarified.

The problem is that "many of these cases are going to recover, but those that complicate will be late to the hospital," which will make recovery more difficult.

Nicaragua reports 359 new cases of COVID-19
                          June 17, 2020 - 11:06

According to data from the regime's Ministry of Health, updated this Tuesday, Nicaragua has registered 1,823 positives and 64 fatalities to date.

The Nicaraguan regime confirmed in the last week 359 new cases and nine more died from COVID-19, a balance that continues to be questioned by opposition organizations but which Daniel Ortega has used in recent months to defend his management capacity against the pandemic.

According to data from the regime's Ministry of Health, updated this Tuesday, Nicaragua has registered 1,823 positives and 64 fatalities to date. The Citizen Observatory, created to evaluate the evolution of the pandemic from independent sources, speaks instead of almost 5,000 infected and about 1,400 deceased.

The newspaper La Prensa, related to the opposition, also stressed that the official balance sheets released once a week by the Government would not fit the evolution curve of an outbreak like this, since after several weeks of constant growth - 25 it went to 245 and then to 480 weekly infections - the data is more contained.

The Nicaraguan regime has not adopted special measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Faced with this, civil society organizations, including medical associations, have appealed to the "self-care" of Nicaraguans.

Ortega asked the National Assembly to allow him to use about 12 million dollars from a loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) initially intended for infrastructure to combat the coronavirus pandemic, something that the regional entity has already authorized.

Nicaragua exceeds official projection of deaths from covid-19 in 90 days
Data from the Citizen Observatory exceed 813 deaths due to the SARS-CoV-2 projected by the Minsa for a period of six months
                            Keyling T. Romero
                            June 18, 2020

Three months after the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic in the country, the number of deaths from coronavirus, according to the latest data collected by the Citizen Observatory COVID-19, exceeds 1,398 deaths. An amount 72% greater than that projected by the Ministry of Health, last February, when it predicted that in a period of six months, at least 813 infected Nicaraguans would die from the new coronavirus.

According to the “Protocol of preparation and response to the risk of introduction of the coronavirus virus” that was leaked and that the Ortega Government recognized in the “white paper” on covid-19, in the following 180 days, after reporting the first In this case, up to 32,500 people could be infected; of which 8125 would develop the disease seriously and 2.5% would not survive.

And although this projection was rejected by medical experts, for suggesting a linear behavior that would not cause accelerated growth, in half the expected time, Nicaragua exceeded the death toll.

“What is clear to me is that when these projections were made, the available experience that was already available at that time was not considered. The use of the mathematical models also available to make the projections was not considered, which was what other epidemiologists did, who did the best they could with the available data. The Ministry of Health made a projection in which it stayed below and there is no wonder, "says the doctor, Miguel Orozco.

Covid-19 case fatality rate in Nicaragua is 28%

Data from the Citizen Observatory place Nicaragua with the highest case fatality rate in the Central American region, with 28.1%. Meanwhile, the official figures - which only recognize 1,823 infections and 64 deaths from covid-19 - lower the case fatality rate to 3.5%. And according to some doctors, the closest percentage to reality would be the first.

"The data from the Citizen Observatory tries to be an approximation to reality, which really is much larger than the death toll they register. The problem we have is that Nicaragua does not have real data, ”says epidemiologist ?lvaro Ram?rez, who in the 1990s was the national director of the Nicaraguan Epidemiological Surveillance department.

In the last five weekly reports provided by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the number of positive cases increased by an average of 359, but deaths have slowed down. However, just last week, as CONFIDENCIAL confirmed, in five of the country's nineteen hospitals dedicated to dealing with the pandemic, 101 Nicaraguans died.

                            Infogram

“I believe that in every Nicaraguan family there is at least one deceased. And that has had a significant impact. Many of the deceased are not registered because they do not have a diagnosis or because they have died at home, "says Dr. Carlos Quant.

On the other hand, the independent monitoring figures show an average weekly increase of 833 cases, adding up to June 10, 4971 suspected cases of covid-19. However, these figures would also have flaws in the projection.

"The observatory data is a little overestimated because what they record the most are hospital data, serious cases, so that data is inflated. That is, when you only register dead and very few positive cases, lethality rises. What is done in other countries is to assess hospital cases, but also the entire population by subjecting them to tests, but here what you got is lethality over the total number of cases and obviously that inflates the data, that is, it overstates the lethality and perhaps that is a methodological error ”, indicates doctor Quant.

                            Covid testing still needed

The underlying problem in the figures on the behavior of the pandemic lies in the lack of evidence and in the government's insistence on not sharing the real situation of infections and the capacity of hospitals. Since the start of the pandemic in the country, epidemiologists and health professionals recommended that massive tests be carried out and also suggested severe containment measures such as quarantine, but none of these were carried out.

                            Infogram

"The tests will serve to know the level of circulation that he (covid-19) has in the country and to know what scenario we may face. We still have inhabitants who have not been exposed to contagion, that is, we do not yet know how they will react. And while we can keep the threshold of new infections low, we will be managing the pandemic well, "says Dr. Orozco, who was director of the Center for Research and Health Studies (CIES).

The tests and the evidence from the statistics are what would define the decisions to contain the spread of the pandemic, would serve to make projections that provide a better scenario for Nicaraguans. However, the reality of the country is that even weekly reports are not enough to analyze the behavior of the pandemic.

“For me, that notification should be daily, if you give me a figure of a week or two, you cannot observe a behavior. And you have to keep track of the behavior to relate it to other factors, such as crowds. For example, if there were more cases on the weekend or if there is a drop when classes are suspended. You have to be observing and monitoring the effect of the measures you are taking, it is not just throwing a number once a week, "adds the expert.

                            Covid-19 deaths will increase

After three months from the first reported case, specialists agree that in the worst case scenario, if more drastic measures are not taken, positive cases and deaths from covid-19 will continue to increase.

"The situation is tragic because there is a natural evolution of the disease. For the time being, it is very likely that the epidemic peak will remain. Projections say this could last about two months or more. How long can that take? We do not know because what has been seen is that when confinement measures begin to be imposed in four or six weeks, the curve can be flattened and the number of infections reduced, "says Dr. Quant.

However, he cautions that the state reaction to covid-19 is similar to when the Zika or Chikungunya epidemic occurred that the outbreak lasted for several months until the majority of the population became infected and developed immunity. But, what this would cause would be a high number of deaths.

For his part, Dr. Ram?rez believes that the government's inaction is due to his strategy of showing normality so that the economic impact is less. Because even, officially, community transmission has not been recognized, although the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) already raised the country to this phase three weeks ago.

"The government made the decision to incorporate coronavirus as another of the country's endemic diseases, that means that people are going to continue dying because officially it is not so dangerous, although we have already seen the impact. Many people are dying and nothing is being done to prevent this mortality, which is completely preventable if international protocols are followed, ”he regrets.

Another week of similar behavior of Covid-19 in Nicaragua
Managua, June 23 (Prensa Latina) Covid-19 behaved similarly to previous weeks in Nicaragua, now with 347 new cases and 10 deaths between June 17 and 23, according to the report released today by the Ministry of Health. (Minsa).

For the fourth consecutive week, the number of deaths from the pandemic was around ten, while infections again fluctuated between three and a half hundred, for a total of 2,180 infected and 75 deaths throughout the country since the March 18 confirmed first case.

In the last three reports, those affected by the disease totaled 359, 346 and 359, in that order, to record a new seven-day period on Tuesday (the time Minsa takes between each update) with similar numbers.

The data of the sanitary organism demonstrate that with the deaths directly associated with the epidemic it has happened in a similar way, since in the aforementioned periods of time 11 and two deaths occurred, in addition to the 10 confirmed today.

From these statistics, it can be concluded that the average of daily cases remains at around 50, which could indicate a flattening of the infection curve, which reached its highest peak in the week of May 19 to 26, with 480 sick.

However, it is impossible to make a more in-depth analysis of the nation's health situation, as the number of tests carried out by health authorities, the number of patients by area, or more of how the infections occurred are unknown.
