COVID-19: the spread of the virus continues to decrease in Martinique
          By RCI Martinique 05/16/2020 - 12:15

To date, 192 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Martinique since the start of the epidemic in the territory. The epidemiological report published by Sant? Publique France on May 14 reports an improvement in the situation.

In the last 4 weeks 30 people have been biologically confirmed at Covid-19 in Martinique (from April 13 to May 14, 2020). For the last 30 confirmed cases, transmissions related to active dissemination areas outside the territory were the most frequent (47%), followed by indigenous (30%) and secondary (23%) transmissions. The number of visits for suspected Covid-19 carried out by SOS Doctors decreases in week S19 (6 against 11 in S18).

In town medicine, the rate of consultations for acute respiratory infection (ARI) was 4 per 10,000 inhabitants from 3 to 10 May (S19), or 149 cases of ARI estimated. The share attributable to Covid-19 is estimated at 394 (cumulative number estimated between March 23 and May 3).

In hospitals, the number of hospitalizations reported via SI-VIC remained stable compared to the previous week (S18). As of May 13, of the 112 hospitalizations recorded, 79 (71%) people have returned to their homes, 19 were still hospitalized (17%), 14 deaths have been reported (including 7 in intensive care).

A total of 38 serious cases (confirmed / probable) have been reported by the adult resuscitation service at the CHU de Martinique since the start of the epidemic. Among them, we note:

          24 men and 14 women
          2.6% are aged 15 to 44
          50% are aged 45 to 64
23.7% are between 65 and 74 years old
23.7% are aged 75 and over

It is also reported that 3 out of 4 patients hospitalized in intensive care had at least one risk factor. To date, no case has been confirmed in accommodation establishments for the elderly (EHPAD) in Martinique and other medico-social establishments. Figures that concern the residents and staff of these structures.

Today (May 22, 2020) the number of confirmed cases is up slightly from May 15, 2020. Individual surveillance. Martinique currently has 197 confirmed cases (+4 confirmed by the CHU laboratory and +1 confirmed by private laboratories) and there has been no patient in intensive care to date (+0).

Among the 197 confirmed cases, there are 101 women and 96 men.
            • 3 are 0 to 14 years old
            • 47 are between 15 and 44 years old
            • 84 are between 45 and 64 years old
            • 47 are aged 65 to 74
            • 16 are over 75
Very weak dynamic of the epidemic in Martinique

Transmissions in connection with active dissemination zones located outside the territory are the most frequent (53%), followed by indigenous (23%) and secondary (18%) transmissions.

Between May 11 and May 17, we record:
            • SOS Doctors: 2 consultations for suspected Covid-19 versus 6 the previous week> decreasing. These consultations represent 0.4% of activity.

            • Sentinels network: 1 consultation for suspected Covid-19 against 2 the previous week> decreasing.

To date, the cumulative number of symptomatic cases estimated from sentinel physician data since March 23 is 395.

During the week of May 11 to 17, cases suggestive of acute respiratory infections were identified in 8 municipalities (compared to 11 the previous week): Trinit?, Sainte-Marie, Lorrain, Schoelcher, Fort-de-France, Saint -Esprit, Marin, Saint-Anne.

In recent weeks, the decline in epidemic surveillance indicators, testifies to a very weak dynamic of the epidemic in Martinique. To date, no cluster has been identified in the territory. A new organization for the control of the epidemic has been set up since the lifting of the containment involving many partners.

The challenge is to limit as much as possible the occurrence of new transmission chains. Barrier, physical distance and contact-tracing measures should be kept to their maximum.

Evolution of the system for welcoming travelers

The health protocol for accessing the territory of Martinique is gradually evolving to adapt to the health situation, but vigilance and good citizenship are essential.

Since June 22, the compelling reasons for traveling on the territory are removed.

Until July 10 (date of the end of the Law on the state of health emergency) all travelers are invited to carry out a 1st PCR test 72 hours before their departure from Paris. Travelers with a negative test see their airport formalities lightened and their quarantine reduced to 7 days. At the end of this quarantine, they must do a 2nd test.

From July 10, the completion of the PCR test 72 hours before the departure of France will become mandatory and the quarantine will be eliminated.
