    Panama City, Dec 28 (EFE).- The Panamanian health authorities reported this Wednesday that they detected the first case of monkeypox in a woman, and that the accumulated number of confirmed infections stood at 79.

    "To date, a new case of monkeypox has been registered, adding 79 accumulated cases in the country," of which 78 are men and one woman. The latter "was detected 15 days ago," the Ministry of Health (Minsa) said in a statement.

    The health portfolio specified that 9 cases are active, of which 5 are in home isolation and 4 comply but in health facilities, either because they have risk factors or because their home does not meet the appropriate conditions for it.

    "The age groups affected are: 15-19 years 1 case (19 years); 20-24 years 7 cases; 25-34 years 39 cases; 35-49 years 23 cases, and 50-51 years 9 cases", detailed the official source.

    The Minsa reported that 46 doses of the monkeypox vaccine have been applied, which in this country is administered "to people who have been exposed to another infected person", and "to medical or health personnel who have been neglected in some way in biosafety measures and consider that there is some risk", as explained by the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre.

    The health entity recalled that monkeypox is spread from person to person through skin lesions of an infected person, respiratory and body fluids, and also through infected clothing or any surface that has come into contact with the lesions.

    Panama declared a health alert for monkeypox on May 24 and on July 5 reported its first case in a 30-year-old man who only had fever, as reported at the time...

        The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) reported that to date, 17 new cases of monkeypox have been registered (between January 5 and 18), for a total of 99 accumulated cases throughout the country.

        Of these 99 accumulated cases, 18 are active, broken down as follows: 14 patients in home isolation and 4 in isolation in health facilities, while 81 have already completed their isolation, without major setbacks.

        The samples were sent to the Gorgas Memorial Institute where they were processed, giving positive results with monkeypox.

        In this sense, the regional health teams immediately carry out field investigations in order to determine the close contacts of these cases and offer them vaccination against monkeypox to cut the chain of transmission of the virus and the spread of the disease.

        The corregimientos with the most confirmed cases of monkeypox, to date, are: Bella Vista with 16 cases; San Francisco 9 cases; Río Abajo 6 cases; Calidonia with 5 cases; Parque Lefevre, Pedregal, Juan Díaz and Bethania with 4 cases.

        They are followed by Chilibre, Ancón, Belisario Porras, Pacora and Tocumen with 3 cases; Victoriano Lorenzo, Vista Alegre, Belisario Frías, December 24, Mayor Díaz, Arnulfo Arias Madrid, El Chorrillo and Ernesto Córdoba with 2 cases.

        Of these 99 cases, 97 men and 2 women have tested positive; In addition, the report highlights that 45.4% of those infected are carriers of HIV.

        The report breaks down that, of the 99 accumulated cases, 64 do not have any sexually transmitted infection (STI), 18 have syphilis, 15 unknown, 1 with genital wart and 1 with gonorrhea.

        The distribution of the cases ranges in an age range between 19 to 59 years.

          Eleven new cases of monkeypox have been registered for a total of 110 accumulated cases throughout the country, reported the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

          The epidemiological report details that of these 110 accumulated cases, 3 were registered in the province of Los Santos, 1 in Veraguas and 2 in Chiriquí.

          The rest of the cases are distributed among the provinces of Panamá Oeste, the Metropolitan Region, San Miguelito and Panamá Norte.

          It is also broken down that, of the 110 accumulated cases, 28 are active and of which 22 patients are in home isolation and 6 are in health facilities.

          While 82 patients have already completed their isolation, without major setbacks.

          According to the report, the corregimientos with the most confirmed cases of monkeypox are Bella Vista, with 16 cases; San Francisco, 10 cases; Río Abajo, 6 cases; Calidonia and Parque Lefevre, with 5 cases, Pedregal, Juan Díaz, Bethania and Ancón with 4 cases.

            The Ministry of Health of Panama, through its Epidemiology department, reported eight new cases of monkeypox, (corresponding to the week of February 25 to 1) for a total of 118 accumulated cases, throughout the country.

            Confirmed cases, to date, have been registered in the provinces of Los Santos, Veraguas, Chiriquí and Panamá Oeste; and in the Health regions: Metropolitan, San Miguelito and Panamá Norte.

            The Minsa explained that the samples were sent to the Gorgas Memorial Institute where they were processed, giving positive results with monkeypox, so the regional health teams immediately carried out field investigations in order to determine the close contacts of these cases. and offer them vaccination against monkeypox to break the chain of transmission of the virus and the spread of the disease.

            The Health authorities of Panama detailed the corregimientos in the province of Panama that have the most cases.

            The corregimientos with the most confirmed cases of monkeypox, to date, are: Bella Vista with 16 cases; San Francisco 11 cases; Calidonia with 7 cases; Río Abajo 6 cases; Lefevre Park with 5 cases, Pedregal, Juan Díaz, Pacora, Chilibre, Bethania and Ancón with 4 cases.

            They are followed by Arnulfo Arias Madrid, Belisario Porras, Las Palmitas (Los Santos) and Tocumen with three (3) cases; then with two (2) cases registered to date, there are the corregimientos of Victoriano Lorenzo, Vista Alegre, Juan Demóstenes Arosemena, Arnulfo Arias Madrid, December 24, Mayor Díaz, Barrio Colón, Belisario Frías, El Chorrillo and Ernesto Córdoba.

            Of these 118 cases, 116 men and 2 women have tested positive; and the distribution of cases, remain in an age range between 19 to 59 years.

            For its part, the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) reports that, until January 30, 2023, 73 registered doses have been applied with 63 first doses and 10 second doses.

            The Metropolitan Health Region has the largest number of doses applied with 49; North Panama with 6 applied doses; West Panama with 5 doses and with 1 dose applied San Miguelito, Coclé and Chiriquí.

            Since last May 24, Panama has maintained a health alert throughout the country and epidemiological surveillance has been redoubled in all health regions and all points of entry into the national territory.
