April 28, 2020 – New rules announced. In a press conference this evening, Aruba’s government has confirmed that as of today April 28, the curfew time will be changed to 10pm-5am from and businesses will be required to close by 9pm. It was also announced that the following new rules will take effect as of May 4, 2020 – referred to as “Level 1” of changes related to relaxing current restrictions. These changes will be reevaluated every two weeks to establish whether subsequent levels of relaxation of restrictions can be implemented or if rollback to stricter ones is required.

    – The following establishments will be allowed to re-open: clothing stores, jewelry stores, snack trucks, museums and art centers. Establishments who closed on a voluntary basis, can also reopen. Notwithstanding this, the maximum persons allowed at any of these establishments – including establishment personnel – is not to exceed 15 persons at any one time. Social distancing of at least 1.5 meters remains in force.

    – Small to medium construction companies can apply for permission for their employees to obtain badges to be able to do construction work. Applications need to be made at the Dienst Openbare Werken (DOW) as of May 4, and construction work will be allowed to commence as of May 6. Private persons who would like to do construction work (e.g. on own property) also need to apply at DOW.

    – Certain government departments offering essential functions will start to reopen with a maximum of 25% of personnel.

April 28, 2020 – Total cases remain at 100, of which 25 are active.
