  • Anguilla: Covid-19 cases - 3 - Zero active cases

    Source: https://dominicanewsonline.com/news/...rst-two-cases/

...Meanwhile, Anguilla reported today that two of four samples sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), on Monday, March 23rd, have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and two have tested negative.

A release from that country’s Ministry of Health states that the first positive case is an imported case – a 27-year old female visitor from the US, who arrived in Anguilla on March 11.

The second positive case, a 47-year old male resident, is a close contact of the first case. This is also an indication of local transmission.

The release goes on to state that, in accordance with public health practices for containment and prevention of spread, the individuals, who both presented with mild symptoms, were placed in isolation upon suspicion and they remain in isolation at this time.

To date, out of a total of nine suspected cases of COVID-19, five have tested negative, two have tested positive and two are pending.

Anguilla to extend ports closure for fourteen days
      Islands 01 April 2020

ANGUILLA--The Executive Council has agreed to extend the closure of Anguilla’s borders for another fourteen days. Originally the air and sea ports were closed on March 20 for fourteen days; that will now be extended to April 24. However, consideration is being given to persons who wish to leave the island and assistance will be given to such persons. In the meantime land, sea and air patrols are being continued to prevent any illegal entry into the island.

The testing kits needed to screen persons for COVID-19 arrived on the island on March 30. These kits are expected to greatly assist the Health Authority in managing suspected cases. Results from the on-island tests will still have to be confirmed by Caribbean Public Health Agency CARPHA in Trinidad. There are currently two cases of COVID-19 in Anguilla and results are expected for a further eight samples that were sent to Trinidad...

Anguilla launches platform with updates on covid-19

            4/14/2020 2:30 PM | Beatriz Contelli
The Ministry of Health and Social Development on the Caribbean island of Anguilla has launched a plataform to keep citizens, tourists and companies in the tourism sector well informed about official local government news and measures regarding measures taken against the covid-19 pandemic.

The platform has official information from several government agencies on the island, such as the Ministries of Tourism, Education, Ports and Airports, Health and Social Development, in addition to the Anguilla Tourism Board. The information ranges from basic hygiene tips and social distance, to updates on services not currently available and measures regarding employment, finances and health.

Due to its relative isolation and small population, the island, since the crisis broke out in the world until today, registered only three confirmed cases. Anguilla is located at the northern end of the Caribbean Sea and can be accessed from St. Martin, as well as having 33 beaches and luxurious hotels.

Anguilla is one of only seven (7) countries in the world that has not reported a new COVID-19 case within the last fourteen (14) days. In recognition of Anguilla’s extraordinary and effective success in mitigating and containing the spread of the deadly virus, March for Science, has invited several representatives from Anguilla to participate in two of their international forums this week.

Good news from the Caribbean: Anguilla is now officially categorized by the Word Health Organization (WHO) as having “no cases” of COVID-19 (coronavirus). As part of the continual review of the transmission classification of COVID-19 cases, Anguilla’s Ministry of Health was notified on June 16 that Anguilla’s classification was changed from “sporadic cases” to “no cases.” The change is reflected in the WHO’s situation report published on June 18, 2020.
                          Great news.
