  • GrippeMontreal - web-based ILI surveillance system in Montreal - translated repost

GrippeMontreal was launched in French and English October 27 to complement other initiatives of the Montreal Public Health Department in order to track the prevalence and incidence of Influenza like illnesses in the general Montreal population.

Our team conducted in July 2009 a first population-based telephone Survey inspired by New York city?s DOHMH ILI study done in may 2009. Since the beginning of the second wave of H1N1, we conducted 4 additional population based surveys. Summary results in French are available here.

GrippeMontreal is an online, city based ILI surveillance system. It also aims at exploring novel ways of communication with the population through social networks. A blog (in French) explores methodological issues, while Facebook and Twitter are used mainly for data dissemination, promote participation and share flu information.

Results are compiled, compared to other local data sources and published weekly online. Click here for the latest results.

We are presently evaluating GrippeMontreal?s ability to serve as an early detection system.

Comments and suggestions from Flutrackers are welcomed!

    Thank you
