    Rising number of flu cases overflowing from Windsor Regional ERs
    Windsor Regional Hospital currently has 44 patients using overflow beds across its two campuses.

    A rising number of influenza cases continues to put the emergency departments at Windsor Regional Hospital under strain.

    Hospital CEO David Musyj sent an email to staff Thursday noting the EDs at both campuses were over capacity with 37 patients using overflow beds. By Monday morning, he said that number had grown to 44.

    The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit currently lists 14 long-term care facilities in the region under an outbreak, two of which were declared Monday. Musyj said about 20 per cent of patients are coming from these residences.

    ?Most are still from the community, so what we?re seeing is an increase in the volumes, but also an increase in the numbers that have to be admitted to an in-patient bed,? he said. ?We?re seeing they?re sicker, their acuity is higher than what we normally would see and primarily respiratory issues and pneumonia-like symptoms or pneumonia itself.? ...
