The Flu Arrives in Cape Breton
But Simple Measures Can Prevent Its Spread
With lab confirmation of its first case of influenza, the Cape Breton District Health Authority is
reminding people about precautions they might take to try and limit the spread of the flu.
Now that the flu is here, Public Health Services reminds people that there are several simple
things they can do to help prevent the spread of the flu. ?Hand washing is your first line of
defense against the flu,? says Mary Musgrave, Public Health Nurse Manager. ?Wash your hands
regularly and thoroughly after you?ve used the washroom, before you prepare food and after
you?ve sneezed or blown your nose. Other precautions to protect against the flu include, staying
home if you are sick with flu like symptoms, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze,
and getting the flu shot each year.?
