    RESPIRATORY WATCH Week 15 (April 10, to April 16, 2011)

    Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending April 16, 2011:

    Localized influenza activity in DHAs 1, 3 and 9. No activity is reported in all other DHAs.

    There were 15 lab confirmed cases of influenza A (7 not yet sub-typed and 8 seasonal H3) this week.

    Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for parainfluenza, metapneumovirus, coronavirus, rhinovirus and RSV.

    For this reporting week, outbreak activity was noted in 3 long term care facilities.

      RESPIRATORY WATCH Week 16 (April 17, to April 23, 2011)

      Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending April 23, 2011:

      Localized influenza activity in DHAs 2, 4, 8 and 9. No activity is reported in all other DHAs.

      There were 5 lab confirmed cases of influenza A (3 not yet sub-typed and 2 seasonal H3) this week.

      Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for parainfluenza, metapneumovirus, rhinovirus and RSV.

      For this reporting week, outbreak activity was noted in 1 hospital, 2 long term care facilities, and 3 schools/daycares.

        Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending April 30, 2011:

        Sporadic influenza activity in DHAs 2, 8 and 9. No activity is reported in all other DHAs.

        There were 12 lab confirmed cases of not yet sub-typed influenza A and 2 lab confirmed cases of Influenza B this week.

        Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for mycoplasma pneumonia, rhinovirus and RSV.

        For this reporting week, outbreak activity was noted in 1 school/daycare.

          There were 2 lab confirmed cases of not yet sub-typed influenza this week.

          Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for adenovirus, chlamydophilla pneumoniae, human metapneumovirus, rhinovirus and RSV.

          For this reporting week, outbreak activity was noted in 2 long term care facilities and 2 schools/daycares.

            No influenza activity reported in the province.

            There were 0 lab confirmed cases of nfluenza this week.

            Other respiratory pathogen activity continues.

            Positive results were received for adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, mycoplasma pneumonia, rhinovirus and RSV.


            For this reporting week, ILI outbreak activity was noted in 2 schools/daycares.

              There were 3 lab confirmed cases of influenza this week
              Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for coronavirus, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza, RSV and rhinovirus


              For this reporting week, ILI outbreak activity was noted in 2 communities
