  • Nova Scotia Respiratory Watch Report (2012-2013) Week 19

    RESPIRATORY WATCH Week 44 (October 28 to November 3, 2012)

    Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending November 3, 2012:

    There were no laboratory confirmed cases of influenza reported in week 44.

    Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for chlamydophila pneumoniae, mycoplasma pneumoniae and pertussis.

    The ILI rate for Nova Scotia for this reporting period was 0.9. DHA 4 did not report. Only 66% of ER sites reported ILI data this week.


    The sentinel swabbing program will commence November 15, 2012.

    Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending November 17, 2012:

    There were no laboratory confirmed cases of influenza reported in week 46.

    Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for enterovirus, mycoplasma pneumoniae, parainfluenza and rhinovirus.

    The ILI rate for Nova Scotia for this reporting period was 0.9. DHA 4 did not report. Seventy five percent of ER sites reported ILI data this week.

    The sentinel swabbing program commenced November 15, 2012.

        Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending December 15, 2012:

        The first case of influenza for the 2012-2013 influenza season was reported this week in DHA 9.

        Laboratory results were positive for influenza A, in an individual aged 30-49 years of age.

        Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for chlamydophila pneumoniae, mycoplasma pneumoniae, parainfluenza, rhinovirus and RSV.

        The ILI rate for Nova Scotia for this reporting period was 0.8. DHA 4 did not report. Seventy eight percent of ER sites reported ILI data this week.

        Zero specimens were submitted for the sentinel swabbing program.

            Week 1 (December 30, 2012 to January 5, 2013)

            Summary of Nova Scotia surveillance findings, for the period ending January 5, 2013:

            12 influenza A and 2 influenza B cases were reported this week.

            Other respiratory pathogen activity continues. Positive results were received for enterovirus, mycoplasma pneumoniae, pertussis, rhinovirus and RSV.

            The ILI rate for Nova Scotia for this reporting period was 1.2. Eighty five percent of ER sites reported ILI data this week. (This is the highest reporting since the beginning of this program. Thank you!)

            Two specimens were submitted through the sentinel swabbing program from DHA 3.

            Sentinel physician data was not received at time of report production.
