Are you prepared for a flu epidemic?
Published Friday October 3rd, 2008
Meds? Cash? Food? Gas? With one in three people being affected by an outbreak of an influenza pandemic, the Nackawic Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Committee (NPIPC) asks if the public sure it will be able to get these and other essential needs.
Find the answer to this question and many others by attending a public general information meeting sponsored by the NPIPC.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at Sure Life Assembly, 335 Otis Drive, Nackawic. All are welcome. Marilyn Evans, who has expert background in Pandemic Preparedness, will be speaking and showing a power-point presentation that will leave participants thinking. Evans, who has been a paramedic for more than 30 years, is the current president of the Pandemic Contingency Group for Route 8 in Central New Brunswick.
She is also Ambulance New Brunswick's operations manager for Stanley and district.
"I believe pre-planning for any type of hazard is a wise step for anyone," Evans said.
The World Health Organization (WHO), which keeps track of Pandemic Flu conditions, says the world is currently at the "Category Three ? Pandemic Imminent" stage. Cities and towns throughout Canada are making preparations.
A number of New Brunswick municipalities, including Nackawic, have formed committees to make preparations for an influenza pandemic.
Nackawic committee members have been working on a Nackawic plan for more than a year.
Now it is time for the public to get "in the know" about these plans and to prepare themselves as well as they can. Anyone representing a municipality which has not yet made preparations for such an emergency is invited to this meeting.
There will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions following the presentation, and there will be a social time of coffee and conversation following the meeting when light refreshments will be served.
Take this opportunity to learn the facts about the threat of Pandemic Flu.
Anyone with questions can call Nackawic town hall at 575-2241.
