Ontario reports 1,555 COVID-19 hospitalizations, 19 more deaths
Province confirms 1,089 new cases from 11,576 tests

Ontario reported 1,555 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Tuesday, as well as 19 more deaths linked to the virus.

Today's reported hospitalizations mark a slight jump from Monday, when 1,213 patients were in hospital with COVID-19 — though it's important to note that not all hospitals report those figures on weekends, which would affect Monday's number.

Of those hospitalized, 188 are in intensive care, with 78 requiring a ventilator to breathe. Both of those figures mark a drop from Monday, when 201 patients were in ICU, of which 87 were on ventilators.

Ontario's Ministry of Health says 42 per cent of patients in hospital Tuesday were admitted directly for treatment related to COVID-19, while 58 per cent were admitted for other reasons but also tested positive for the virus...

Ontario is reporting 1,451 people in hospital with COVID on Thursday, with 175 in intensive care.

This is down by 77 for hospitalizations and a decrease of one for ICUs since the previous day. Last Thursday, there were 1,676 hospitalizations with 205 in ICU.

According to latest data for hospitalizations, 60 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19. For those in ICUs, 39 per cent were admitted for other reasons.

Meanwhile, Ontario also reported 2,160 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, though that is an underestimate of the true widespread transmission of the virus due to PCR testing eligibility. The provincial case total now stands at 1,281,360.

The death toll in the province has risen to 13,034 from the previous day as 14 more virus-related deaths were added...

That marks an increase of two hospitalizations and a decrease of seven people in intensive care compared to Thursday’s report.

Last Friday, there were 1,662 people reported to be in hospital with COVID-19, with 210 in intensive care.

Ontario COVID update: 1,392 people in hospital, 156 in ICU
                            By Isaac Callan Global News

There are 1,392 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 156 in intensive care, according to data released by the province on Saturday.

The figures represent a drop in the number of people in ICU and hospital as a result of the novel coronavirus compared to both Friday and last Saturday.

Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, said COVID-19 wastewater indicators are declining as part of a broader trend. He also said test positivity and hospitalizations are also on the way down.

“If we continue along this trajectory, I think we’ll have a low level of endemic activity throughout the summer,” he said in an interview.

Moore said he expects the fall to see an increase in risk and transmission.

Yesterday, there were 1,453 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 168 people in intensive care due to the virus.

A week ago — on Saturday, May 7 — there were 1,563 people in hospital with COVID-19. A total of 204 people were in an Ontario ICU.

Ontario’s COVID data was delayed Saturday due to technical difficulties and not all data sets were updated...

The number of people being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care has hit its lowest point since December, as the overall burden on the healthcare system continues to ease following the sixth wave of the pandemic.

The latest data from the Ministry of Health indicates that there are at least 1,024 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 151 in Ontario intensive care units.

It is the lowest number of COVID patients in the ICU since Dec. 10.

It should, however, be noted that about 10 per cent of hospitals do not upload occupancy data to the ministry on weekends.

Overall COVID hospitalizations are now down 12 per cent from this time last week, while the number of people in the ICU is down 27 per cent.

Other public health indicators are also showing steady improvements.

Over the last 24 hours Ontario’s labs confirmed 1,564 new cases of COVID-19 through PCR testing, compared to 1,934 at this time last week and 2,243 the previous week (May 1)...
