New data shows severe outcomes due to COVID-19 are increasing in Manitoba, with hospitalizations up and more deaths reported.

According to the provincial COVID-19 surveillance report released Thursday, during the week of April 3 - 9, there were 177 hospital admissions – up from the 141 admissions the week prior. Included in this were 19 admissions to ICU, an increase from the 11 people admitted the week prior.

The provincial data also shows five more deaths were reported during the week, bringing the total to 1,759. No details regarding these deaths were released in the surveillance report.

The report also shows 1,694 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases – an increase from the 1,359 cases reported in the previous week. Public health has previously said the number of reported cases is an undercount as it does not include the results of rapid tests taken at home...

Manitoba COVID hospitalizations rose 20 per cent in 1 week, data says
        ICU patient numbers hold steady
Bartley Kives · CBC News · Posted: Apr 19, 2022 1:08 PM CT | Last Updated: 1 hour ago

The number of COVID-19 patients in Manitoba hospitals rose 20 per cent over the past week, but intensive care patient numbers held steady, says data obtained by CBC News.

As of Tuesday, 538 patients with COVID-19 occupied a hospital bed in Manitoba, internal provincial data says. That's a rise of 90 patients from the 448 in hospital on April 12.

Over the same one-week period, there was no rise in the number of COVID patients in provincial intensive care wards, the data says.

That number held steady at 26 — 25 adults and one pediatric case.

The province no longer discloses publicly the total number of COVID-19 patients in hospital at any given time. Instead, it releases a weekly epidemiological report that includes the number of new hospital and ICU admissions due to COVID.

The most recent of those reports, which covers the week of April 3 to 9, said 177 people were admitted to hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 26 per cent over the previous week...

CBC News · Posted: Apr 21, 2022 11:55 AM CT | Last Updated: April 21

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations continued to grow last week as the number of COVID-19 deaths rose compared to the previous week, the latest update from Manitoba public health says.

The weekly report released on Thursday covers the period from April 10 to 16.

In that week, 206 people were admitted to hospital with COVID-19, up from 177 the week before, an increase of 16 per cent.

On Tuesday, CBC News obtained internal provincial data showing more up-to-date numbers, indicating the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 has continued to grow.

The internal data said there were 538 patients with COVID-19 in hospitals — a rise of 20 per cent, or 90 patients, from 448 on April 12...

COVID-19 admissions to Manitoba hospitals now rising more slowly
188 COVID patients admitted last week, while 13 more Manitobans died of COVID-19
Bartley Kives · CBC News · Posted: Apr 28, 2022 11:36 AM CT | Last Updated: 24 minutes ago

The latest wave of COVID-19 in Manitoba appears to be levelling off.

The increase in COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital in Manitoba last week was lower than the previous week, suggesting this latest wave of the pandemic may have peaked.

The latest epidemiological report from Manitoba Public Health says 188 COVID patients were admitted to hospital in the week of April 17 to 23. That's up four patients from the week ending April 16, when there were 184.

The report also says 12 COVID patients were admitted to intensive care wards last week, a drop of 10 ICU admissions from the week ending April 16, when there were 22.

That's a marked improvement from the previous trend. There were 26 more hospital admissions and three more ICU admissions in the week ending April 16 than in the week ending April 9 (when there were 158 and 19)....

Manitoba reports 16 new coronavirus outbreaks, including 11 in long-term care facilities
185 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 reported from April 24-30
CBC News · Posted: May 05, 2022 10:45 AM CT | Last Updated: 23 minutes ago

Manitoba reported 16 new COVID-19 outbreaks last week, while a wave of hospitalizations appears to have crested, the most recent weekly data release from the provincial government says.

Of the new outbreaks from April 24 to 30, 11 were in long-term care facilities. That's a significant jump compared to any other week in the past month, when the number ranged from zero to seven.

Fewer patients were admitted to hospital last week than in the previous week.

Weekly hospital admissions had risen every week last month. The last time the weekly report showed a drop in hospital numbers was for the period ending March 26.

In the period from April 24 to 30, 185 people were admitted to hospital with COVID-19, compared to 200 the week before...

Manitoba says 183 new patients were hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 last week while the province saw 11 more deaths linked to the virus.

The numbers, found in the province’s weekly epidemiology update covering May 1 to 7, show slightly fewer deaths but similar hospitalization rates compared with data released a week earlier.

From April 24 to 30, Manitoba reported 185 new hospitalizations and 14 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Of the latest hospitalizations, 13 required admission to the intensive care unit, according to the data...

                            7 new outbreaks declared

Manitoba's official COVID-19 death count jumped by 66 in the most recent weekly epidemiological report.

In the latest report covering the period from May 8 to 14, provincial health officials reported a total of 1,913 people in Manitoba have died due to COVID-19, compared to 1,847 the week before.

Not all those deaths occurred in that one week, as the province regularly adjusts data as new cases are confirmed or removed.

During the week covered by the most recent report, the province reported 16 new deaths. That's an increase compared to the week before, when there were 11 new deaths reported.

There were seven new outbreaks declared in that week: three in hospitals and four in long-term care facilities.

Hospital admissions decreased, from 196 to 149. There were 16 admissions to intensive care units...
