Sask. reports lowest COVID-19 case count since early November with 56 new cases

REGINA -- Saskatchewan recorded 56 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, which is the lowest new case count since the fist week of November.

The new cases are in the Far Northwest (5), Far North Central (2), Far Northeast (15), Northwest (2), North Central (5), Saskatoon (6), Central East (1), Regina (16), and South Central (1), Southeast (1) zones. Two cases have pending residence information.

Along with the new cases, the province reported three more deaths. Two people who died were above the age of 80; one was from the Saskatoon area and the other was from the Central East zone. The third death was a person in their 60s from the Northwest zone.

There were 158 recoveries, which brings the number of active cases to 1,425 – the lowest the province has seen since mid-November.

According to the province, there were 2,155 tests processed on Tuesday.

REGINA -- Saskatchewan reported one new COVID-19 related death on Thursday. There are 211 new cases to report.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and SHA CEO Scott Livingstone will give a live COVID-19 update Thursday at 3 p.m. This event will be streamed live on CTVNewsRegina.ca and CTVNewsSaskatoon.ca.

The latest death related to COVID-19 in Saskatchewan was a person over 80 years old, living in the Northwest zone.

There are 1,493 active cases in Saskatchewan, as the province reported 142 new recoveries.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 155 or 12.7 new cases per 100,000 people.

The new cases reported Thursday are located in Far Northwest (24), Far North Central (six), Far Northeast (three), Northwest (16), North Central (five), Northeast (three), Saskatoon (37), Central West (five), Central East (13), Regina (80), South West (one), South Central (seven) and Southeast (four) zones. Seven cases are pending location details.

Seven previously reported cases with pending location details were assigned.

There are 156 people in hospital with COVID-19 in Saskatchewan; 138 receiving inpatient care and 18 people in intensive care...

REGINA -- Saskatchewan recorded 153 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with 136 recoveries and no new deaths.

The new cases are in the Far Northwest (31), Far Northeast (8), Northwest (11), North Central (5), Northeast (3), Saskatoon (18), Central West (1), Central East (17), Regina (50) and South Central (5) zones. Four cases are pending residence information.

There are 155 people in hospital; 16 people are in the ICU.

As of Friday, there are 1,510 active cases of the virus in Saskatchewan. The seven-day average of daily new cases is 156.

According to Health Canada, Saskatchewan has the highest rate of cases in the last seven days, with 93 per 100,000 people. The province also has the highest rate of active cases, with 127 per 100,000 people.

REGINA -- The Government of Saskatchewan reported five new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, along with 162 new cases and 119 recoveries.

Saskatchewan also set a single-day high for vaccine distribution on Friday, with 5,211 doses administered. There have been 75,501 total vaccine doses distributed.

Due to data corrections, 93 doses were removed from the Regina zone and 134 doses were removed from the South Central zone..

... A total of 151 people are in hospital, including 16 people in intensive care.

There are 1,548 cases currently considered active. The seven-day average for new cases in Saskatchewan is 152, or 12.4 new cases per 100,000 population...

Saskatchewan health officials recorded 141 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths linked to the virus on Sunday.

The Saskatoon region saw the most positive tests with 38, followed by the Regina zone at 19 and the northwest region at 17.

...COVID-19-related hospitalizations saw a slight increase to 154 on Sunday — up three people from the day before. Nineteen patients are under intensive care in the Saskatoon, Regina and northwest regions.

Sask. records 154 new COVID-19 cases, provincial lab to start testing for variants

REGINA -- Saskatchewan reported 154 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, along with 146 recoveries. There are no new deaths to report.

There are 151 people in hospital, 21 people currently require intensive care.

The new cases are in the Far Northwest (12), Far North Central (3), Far Northeast (5), Northwest (14), North Central (10), Northeast (2), Saskatoon (33), Central West (1), Central East (14), Regina (53) and Southeast (2) zones.

Active cases continue to climb in Regina; there are currently 497 active cases in the Queen City, compared to 292 in Saskatoon. Two weeks ago, on Feb. 15, there were 377 active cases in Regina and 470 in Saskatoon.

There are currently 1,551 active cases of the virus in the province.

According to Health Canada, Saskatchewan continues to have the highest rate of active cases in the country with 131 active cases per 100,000 people. Quebec is second with 91 cases per 100,000...

Saskatchewan reported 121 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths on Wednesday.

Both deaths were people in the 80-plus age group, with one each from the Regina and Saskatoon zones.

There were also 180 recoveries reported Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 27,239.

There are 1,431 known active cases in the province. So far there have been 389 COVID-related deaths...

Saskatchewan reported 207 new cases of COVID-19 and two more coronavirus-related deaths Friday.

One of the people who died was in the 60 to 69 age group from Regina. The other resident was in the 80 and older age group and was from Saskatoon.

There have been a total of 393 known COVID-19-related deaths in the province as of Friday.

Of the 29,432 total known cases to date, 1,507 are considered active.

REGINA -- Saskatchewan recorded 97 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, along with one additional death and three more confirmed cases of the B.1.1.7 variant.

MORE CONFIRMED VARIANTS

Two of the new variant cases were confirmed in the Regina zone and one is in the Northwest zone. This includes the confirmation of a presumptive positive case reported Feb. 23.

So far, nine variant cases have been confirmed in the province; eight are the B.1.1.7 variant which originated in the U.K., and one is the B.1.3.5.1 variant that originated in South Africa.

The Saskatchewan government is relaxing the rules for people meeting indoors on the same day it announced that 35 more known cases of COVID-19 in the province have been confirmed to be variants of concern.

Effective immediately, individual households can create a bubble of up to 10 people inside a home at any one time, though the 10 people should be from two to three consistent households, according to a news release from the province.

"You may not join multiple bubbles," the release said.

People are still being asked to exercise caution.

"Assess the overall risk of COVID-19 before joining households. Does this household have a senior at elevated risk? Children attending school? Adults working outside of the home in essential workplaces? Can you still count all the potential contacts that household makes, in the event that a contact investigation must be done?" the release said.

"If the risk of potential transmission remains high, consider another household or remaining within your household."...

The rules were being relaxed thanks to "a declining trend in confirmed cases and hospitalizations," according to the release.

It also noted that the first survey of positive COVID-19 samples conducted within the province, looking at samples from people who tested positive for COVID-19 from Jan. 26 to Feb. 27, found 35 cases of COVID-19 variants, bringing the total number of known variant cases to 44, up from nine on Monday.

The first batch of in-house testing focused on COVID-19 samples linked to international travel, declared outbreaks and cases of unexpected severe illness.

The province announced 113 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, based on a total 1,874 tests performed. This brought the total number of known cases in the province since the pandemic began to 29,918.

26 COVID-19 variant cases detected in Sask., 111 new cases reported

REGINA -- The Government of Saskatchewan reported one COVID-19 death, 111 new cases and 140 recoveries on Wednesday.

It also confirmed an additional 26 variant cases have been detected in previously tested COVID-19 samples.

VARIANTS OF CONCERN

The 26 previously undetected B.1.1.7 variant cases were found in cases from the Regina zone.

These cases include sequencing results for samples collected between Feb. 12-20 from the National Microbiology Laboratory, and samples from the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory between Feb. 2-28.

Saskatchewan has now detected 70 variant of concern cases, including 64 B.1.1.7 cases and six B.1.351 cases.

The province said a person in the 80-plus age group from the Regina zone has died after testing positive for COVID-19.

A total of 1,384 cases remain active. The seven day average for daily new cases is 139, or 11.4 new cases per 100,000 population.

Saskatchewan reported 165 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. No additional residents have died because of the coronavirus.

As of Thursday, 56 per cent of long-term care homes across Saskatchewan have now received their first and second doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and are now fully vaccinated.

Forty-five per cent of personal care homes have now received both their first and second doses as well.

Of the total 30,193 known COVID-19 cases to date in the province, 1,395 are considered active.
