      ...Weekly COVID-19 Epi Report

      Issued Thursdays, the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 integrated epidemiology (epi) report utilizes multiple data sources and includes laboratory-confirmed cases, deaths, tests, vaccination information provincially and by zones, as well as hospital and ICU census trends and distribution of rapid antigen tests. The epi report this week looks at data from Sunday, March 6 to Saturday, March 12, 2022. The hospitalization data is a comparison from Thursday, March 9 to noon March 16, 2022.

      Summary for the week of March 6 - 12, 2022
      • 6,826 laboratory tests were performed in Saskatchewan reflecting 5.7 tests performed per 1,000 population.
      • The number of tests was about 90 per cent of the number of tests in the previous week (7,518).
      • About one in nine laboratory tests were positive (weekly test positivity of 11.8 per cent).
      • Percentage of positive tests (11.8 per cent) was lower than in the previous week (12.7 per cent).
      • 832 new cases were confirmed reflecting about 0.7 laboratory-confirmed cases per 1,000 population.
      • The number of new laboratory-confirmed cases was about four-fifths of the number of new cases in the previous week (1,013).
      • There were 350 new lineage results reported this week. Of the 350 variants of concern identified by whole genome sequencing, 99.7 per cent were Omicron.
      • There were 28 newly reported COVID-19 deaths compared to 13 in the previous week.
      • There were 27.1 COVID-like illness patients per 1,000 emergency department visits which is lower than the average weekly rate in the previous six weeks (38.9 per week/1,000 visits).
      • Ten (10) confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care and care home settings were reported this week.
      • As of March 12, of the population five years and older, 85.6 per cent received at least one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine and 80.5 per cent completed their series.
      • Among the population 18 years and older, 51 per cent had received at least one booster vaccination.
      • As of the week of March 14, there have been 94 Paxlovid prescriptions provided and 247 monoclonal antibody infusion treatments administered.
      • More than 19.2 million rapid antigen test kits that have been distributed in the province. They are easily accessible at 630 locations.

          Sask. COVID-19 deaths up for 2nd week in a row with 33 fatal cases reported

          Thirty-three COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Saskatchewan’s latest COVID-19 report, up for the second straight week, with 28 reported last week.

          A total of 306 people are in hospital related to COVID-19: 128 for a COVID-19 related illness and 158 with an incidental COVID-19 infection.

          There are 19 people in ICUs, according to the province’s epidemiology report.

          There were 147 new lineage results reported this past week. Of the 147 variants of concern identified by whole genome sequencing, all were Omicron. Approximately 26 per cent of those cases were identified as the Omicron BA.2 sublineage.

          A total of 895 new laboratory cases were confirmed for the week of March 13-19, according to a news release from the provincial government.

          More than one in nine lab tests were positive, leading to a test positivity rate of 11.7 per cent...

              • 7,449 laboratory tests were performed in Saskatchewan reflecting 6.2 tests performed per 1,000 population.
              • The number of tests was similar to the number of tests in the previous week (7,488).
              • Almost one in eight laboratory tests were positive (weekly test positivity of 12.3 per cent), slightly higher than the previous week.
              • 1,196 new cases were confirmed reflecting about 1.0 laboratory-confirmed cases per 1,000 population.
              • The number of new laboratory-confirmed cases was about 34 per cent higher than the number of new cases in the previous week (894).
              • There were 400 new lineage results reported this week. Of the 400 variants of concern identified by whole genome sequencing, all were Omicron.
              • The Omicron BA.2 sublineage accounted for 15.5 per cent of the variants of concern reported this week, a decrease from 25.9 per cent the previous week.
              • There were 20 newly-reported COVID-19 deaths, about 39 per cent lower than in the previous week (33).
              • There were 25.7 COVID-like illness patients per 1,000 emergency department visits which is lower than the average weekly rate in the previous six weeks (35.2 per week/1,000 visits).
              • Ten (10) confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care and care home settings were reported this week.
              • As of March 26, of the population five years and older, 85.7 per cent received at least one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine and 80.6 per cent completed a series.
              • Among the population 18 years and older, 51.3 per cent had received at least one booster vaccination.
              • As of the week of March 28, there have been 113 Paxlovid prescriptions provided and 286 monoclonal antibody infusion treatments administered.
              • More than 19.3 million rapid antigen test kits have been distributed in the province. They are easily accessible at 630 locations.

                  COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations rise in Sask.

                  Twenty-four new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Saskatchewan for the week of March 27 to April 2, up four from the previous weekly provincial update.

                  COVID-19 related hospitalizations rose as well, with 354 total reported as of April 6 including 20 people in ICUs. Among those in hospital, 145 had a COVID-19 related illness, 177 were incidental infections and 32 were under investigation.

                  Twenty confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks were reported in long-term care and care home settings, up 10 from last week.

                  Also, 440 new variant lineage results were reported, all of which were Omicron. Of those 440, 21.4 per cent were sublineage BA.2, compared to 15.5 per cent from the last update.

                  There were 7,689 lab test performed in Saskatchewan, with 1,196 positive results, leading to a test positivity of 13.2 per cent, slightly higher than last week which was 12.3 per cent.

                    • Slightly more than one in nine laboratory tests were positive for a weekly test positivity of 11.7 per cent, which was unchanged from the previous week.
                    • 829 new cases were confirmed reflecting about 0.7 laboratory-confirmed cases per 1,000 population.
                    • The number of new laboratory-confirmed cases was lower than the number of new cases in the previous week (889).

                        19 COVID-19 deaths reported in Sask., 321 in hospital

                        Sask. reported 19 COVID-19 deaths for the week of May 1-7, up five from the last update. Of those, seven were in Regina and five were in Saskatoon.

                        A total of 321 people are in hospital related to COVID-19 as of May 11, down 69 from last week. Of that, 125 are for a COVID-19 related illness, 186 are an incidental COVID-19 infection and 10 are under investigation. There are sixteen people in ICUs.

                        A total of 710 lab confirmed cases were also reported, which is down 55 from the last update.

                        There were 252 new lineage results reported. Of those 252, all were Omicron with the BA.2 sublineage accounting for 94.8 per cent...

                            22 COVID-19 related deaths, province expanding Paxlovid prescribing authority

                            There were 22 more COVID-19 related deaths for the week of May 8-14 along with 465 new laboratory confirmed cases, according to the latest update from the Saskatchewan government.

                            The province also said that Paxlovid will now be available in 170 pharmacies across the province as well as through select physicians and nurse practitioners.

                            The drug is only available if prescribed and is an anti-viral treatment for COVID-19...

                            ... “There were 265 new lineage results reported this week. Of the 265 variants of concern (VOC) identified by whole genome sequencing, 100 per cent were Omicron,” according to the province.

                            The Omicron BA.2 sublineage accounted for 71 per cent of the VOCs reported.

                            There are 270 people in hospitals across the province with COVID-19, as of May 18.

                            Ninty-seven are for a COVID-19 related illness, 164 have an incidental COVID-19 infection and nine are under investigation.

                              Sask. reported 12 COVID-19 deaths for the week of May 15-21, down 10 from the last update.

                              A total of 258 people are in hospital related to COVID-19 as of May 25, down 12 from last week. Of that, 90 are for a COVID-19 related illness, 150 are an incidental COVID-19 infection and 18 are under investigation. There are 10 people in ICUs.

                              A total of 376 lab confirmed cases were also reported, which is down 89 from the last update.

                              There were 344 new lineage results reported. Of those 344, all were Omicron with the BA.2 sublineage accounting for 87.8 per cent...
