B.C. health officials announced 589 new cases of COVID-19 and seven more deaths on Friday.

It 's the eighth time in nine days the seven day rolling average of new cases has gone up.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix put the number of hospitalized patients at 232 people, 63 of whom are in intensive care.

A total of 1,355 people in B.C. have lost their lives due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

There are currently 4,665 active cases of coronavirus in the province — the highest number since Jan. 13 — with public health monitoring 8,040 people across B.C. due to COVID-19 exposure. More than 73,188 people who tested positive have recovered...

VANCOUVER -- British Columbia recorded another 1,478 cases of COVID-19 and eight related deaths over the weekend, health officials said Monday.

The province has now seen a total of 80,672 coronavirus infections and 1,363 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.

In a joint written statement, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix offered condolences to "everyone who has lost loved ones to COVID-19."

B.C. identified 532 of its latest cases from Friday to Saturday, followed by 508 from Saturday to Sunday and 438 from Sunday to Monday.

The province has now recorded an average of 500 cases per day over the last week, up from a recent low of 407 per day as of Feb. 17.

Health officials also confirmed 42 new cases involving "variants of concern." The province has now recorded 158 such cases, including 137 of the B.1.1.7 variant first identified in the U.K. and 21 cases of the B.1.351 variant associated with South Africa.

Only 10 of the identified variant cases are currently active.

Another 1,588 people also recovered from the disease over the weekend, leaving B.C. with 4,464 active cases – a drop of about 200 from Friday. That includes 236 patients in hospital, 65 of whom are in intensive care...

B.C. health officials announced 542 new cases of COVID-19 and seven more deaths on Wednesday as the number of patients in hospital begins to creep back up again.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix put the number of hospitalized patients at 246 people, 64 of whom are in intensive care.

The number of people in hospital with the disease has been slowly inching up for the last two weeks after a steady decline that began January, now hitting levels about 13 per cent higher than the low point seen on Feb. 19.

Meanwhile, the seven-day rolling average of new cases continues to climb and is now about 25 per cent higher than it was two weeks ago.

In light of those trends, Henry and Dix signalled that current restrictions on everyday life will not be lifted in the near future — or at least not until a much larger portion of the population has been vaccinated...

B.C. could be looking at a "post-pandemic world" this summer if the province's vaccine rollout continues on the right track, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said Thursday.

It was a glimmer of good news as health officials announced 564 new cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths on Thursday.

However, the number of variants of concern continues to climb. Of the new cases, 46 were identified as variants, bringing B.C.'s total to 246.

There are 248 people in hospital, 63 of whom are in intensive care. There are currently 4,743 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 8,659 close contacts of confirmed cases are being monitored by public health.

A total of 1,376 people in B.C. have died of the disease since the pandemic began.

The rolling average of new cases, as well as the number of active cases are at their highest point since Jan. 13 and the number of hospitalizations is the highest since Feb. 5...

B.C. health officials announced a spike in new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, adding 634 over the last 24 hours. Another four people have died of the disease.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix put the number of hospitalized patients at 255 people, 66 of whom are in intensive care.

A total of 1,380 people in B.C. have lost their lives to COVID-19 since the pandemic began, out of 83,107 confirmed cases.

There are currently 4,901 active cases of coronavirus in the province, and public health is monitoring 8,861 people across B.C. who are in self-isolation because of COVID-19 exposure. A total of 76,752 people who tested positive have recovered.

So far, 311,208 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 86,865 second doses.

B.C.'s hospitalization numbers and seven-day rolling average of new cases have been rising over the last two weeks, but health officials said Thursday they're hopeful that as the vaccination program speeds up, the province could be in a post-pandemic world by this summer...

BC health officials report 1,462 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths since Friday

British Columbia health officials announced on Monday there have been 1,462 new test-positive COVID-19 cases since Friday, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the province to 84,569.

During a press conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said there were 545 cases reported from Friday to Saturday, 532 from Saturday to Sunday, and 385 from Sunday to Monday.

Broken down by health region, this equates to 407 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 802 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 72 in the Island Health region, 79 in the Interior Health region, and 102 in the Northern Health region.

There were also 11 new COVID-19-related deaths, for a total of 1,391 deaths in British Columbia.

There are 4,854 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 8,723 people under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases. A total of 78,237 people who tested positive have recovered...

British Columbia reported 531 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, along with one additional death.

It left the seven-day moving average of new cases at 534, virtually unchanged overnight but still about 100 higher than this time last month.

In a written statement, health officials said there were 4,861 active cases in B.C., while another 9,051 people were isolating due to exposure.

Of the news cases, 147 new were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 291 were in the Fraser Health region, 19 were in the Island Health region, 42 were in the Interior Health region and 32 were in the Northern Health region.

The province reported an additional 51 cases of COVID-19 variants of concern, for a total of 627 ? 109 of which remain actived.

The total includes 580 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant first detected in the U.K., 33 cases of the B.1.351 variant first detected in South Africa and 14 cases of the P.1 variant first detected in Brazil...

British Columbians can gather outside in groups of up to 10 people, effective immediately, following four months of restrictions on social gatherings.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry amended her public health order Thursday, which had banned outdoor gatherings since November and allowed residents to only meet outside for walks.

The new guidelines mean families can have play dates and friends can meet outside for a coffee, she said.

Despite the province's case numbers hovering around 500 per day in recent weeks, Henry said the riskiest settings are indoors and the chance of spread decreases outside...

...Henry updated her public health order on the same day the province recorded 569 new cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths.

A total of 244 people are in hospital, with 68 people in intensive care. The province has 4,912 active cases, with another 8,900 people under public health monitoring.

New modelling presented by Henry shows the number of contacts people are having are at about 50 to 60 per cent of normal.

The modelling projects a 50 per cent contact rate could lead to a peak in mid-March followed by a gradual decline into the spring months, but a 60 per cent contact rate could result in cases surging back up.

"This is not a prediction," Dr. Henry cautioned. "But it helps us understand the things that we need to do."

The province's reproductive number ? the number of people a person will infect ? is hovering around one (a number close to or above one risks an increase in cases).

Complicating the scenarios are cases of variants circulating in the community. The province has recorded more than 500 cases of the B117 variant, first identified in the U.K. Most of those cases have been found in Fraser Health...

B.C. reports highest daily total for new COVID-19 cases in 2 months, but no deaths

British Columbia health officials reported both positive and negative news on the COVID-19 front in their last update of the week on Friday.

In a written statement, officials reported 648 new cases ? the highest daily number in more than two months, and the second-highest daily tally of 2021.

Of the new cases 149 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 372 were in the Fraser Health region, 32 were in the Island Health region, 39 were in the Interior Health region and 56 were in the Northern Health region.

Active cases climbed once again to 5,070, the highest they?ve been in two months, and there were 9,155 people isolating due to exposure ? the highest number since the start of the year.

B.C. health officials announced Monday that 10 more people have died of COVID-19, as the province recorded 1,506 new cases over the last three days.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 269 people are being treated in hospital, including 76 in critical care.

There are currently 4,987 active cases of COVID-19 across the province.

Since the pandemic began, 1407 British Columbians have died as a result of contracting the virus.

Henry says 163 cases have now been identified as being linked to variants of concern for a total of 880 cases, including 195 that are still active.

Monday's update is the first since 648 new cases were announced on Friday ? the highest daily case count since Jan. 7.

On Thursday, health officials eased restrictions for the first time in four months to allow outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people but asked that people stick to the same group.

Despite the province's daily case numbers hovering above 500 in recent weeks, Henry said the riskiest settings are indoors, while the chance of spread outside is minimal.

Due to the risk of indoor St. Patrick's Day gatherings, she says, she has decided to restrict alcohol sales after 8 p.m. on Wednesday...

VANCOUVER -- For the second time in a week, health officials in British Columbia had no new deaths related to COVID-19 to report on Tuesday.

The province has credited the widespread vaccination of vulnerable seniors living in care homes for the declining number of deaths in recent weeks ? although they have also pointed out that the vaccine does not guarantee against outbreaks in those settings.

"We are all excited to get our COVID-19 vaccine, as not only do they provide protection, but also bring hope and renewal for all of us," provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint written statement.

"The vaccines are protecting more and more seniors and Elders. They are also helping break the chains of transmission in our communities where we continue to see outbreaks and spread. This is critical to our pandemic response."

Meanwhile, B.C. is still seeing a slow uptick in COVID-19 infections. Officials announced 556 new cases on Tuesday, pushing the province's seven-day average to 544 per day ? the highest it's been since Jan. 13.

British Columbia has now recorded a total of 88,929 infections and 1,407 related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Cases involving variants of concern are also quickly increasing in number. Henry and Dix announced another 116 confirmed variant cases Tuesday, bringing the provincial total to 996, 130 of which remain active.

The B.1.1.7 variant associated with the U.K. accounts for the vast majority of variant cases, at 921. The province has also confirmed 41 cases of the B.1.351 variant discovered in South Africa and 34 cases of the P.1 variant first identified in Brazil...

B.C. recorded four COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday along with 498 new cases.

The deaths bring the province?s COVID-19 death toll to 1,411.

There are 4,851 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, a decrease of 148 from Tuesday.
