    Alberta reports 369 new COVID-19 cases as active cases continue to rise
    11 more people in hospital due to COVID-19; now 113 hospitalizations, including 25 in ICU

    Alberta surpasses 300 daily cases for a second day in a row, as public health officials report 369 net new cases of COVID-19 Friday.

    The number of known active cases rose by 193 since the last update to 2,719.

    Here's how active cases break down across the province:

    Calgary zone: 1,414
    Edmonton zone: 527
    South zone: 309
    North zone: 305
    Central zone: 160
    Unknown: 4

    Another 133 cases of coronavirus variants of concern have been identified, bringing the total of known active variant cases to 1,956 — or 72 per cent of all known active cases in Alberta.

    Eleven more Albertans have been admitted to hospital to be treated for COVID-19 since the last update. There are now 113 hospitalizations, including 25 patients in intensive care units...

      Alberta adds over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend

      Alberta Health said Monday that 1,017 new COVID-19 cases were identified in the province over the weekend while three more people have died of the disease.

      The health department said 244 cases were identified on Sunday, 375 on Saturday and 398 on Friday.

      With the new cases, Alberta currently has 3,380 active coronavirus cases. With 1,593 active COVID-19 cases, the Calgary zone is where nearly half of the province’s coronavirus cases are currently located. The Edmonton zone has 724 cases, the North Zone has 424 cases, the South zone has 421 cases, the Central zone has 211 cases and seven cases have not been linked to any particular zone.

      With the three latest COVID-19 fatalities, the total number of people who have died of the illness in Alberta is now at 2,328.

      As of Monday afternoon, there were 129 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 26 of those people were in intensive care units...

        COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU rates continue to climb in Alberta

        The number of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta continued to climb on Tuesday, sitting at 3,463 across the province.

        Alberta’s active case rate has been rising for the past couple weeks. On July 14, it was 569, by July 26, it had surpassed 1,000, and Aug. 3, it climbed over 2,100 cases.

        COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU admissions have also been going up. On Tuesday, there were 133 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 29 of whom were being treated in intensive care. That compares to 90 in hospital last Tuesday (23 in ICU) and 82 in hospital (21 in ICU) on Tuesday, July 27.

        Alberta lifted essentially all public health measures on July 1.

        Alberta Health confirmed 279 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday out of about 5,400 tests.

        Alberta’s positivity rate sat at around 5.3 per cent.

        Two additional deaths from COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours...

          Alberta reports 501 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death

          Alberta reported 501 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, as active cases climbed past the 3,700 mark.

          The number of active cases in the province currently sits at 3,769, an increase of 306 since Tuesday.

          There are 138 hospitalizations due to the virus, an increase of five since Tuesday. This includes 31 Albertans currently in intensive care, an increase of two.

          One new death was reported, bringing the province’s death toll to 2,331...

            Alberta public health officials reported 550 net new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, marking the second day in a row the daily case count surpassed the 500 mark.

            The number of known active cases is now up to 4,101 — an increase of 332 since Wednesday's update. It's the first time total known active cases have been above 4,000 since June 8...

              COVID-19 in Alberta: 500+ new cases for 3rd straight day as province delays masking, testing changes

              EDMONTON -- Alberta added 500 new cases of COVID-19 for the third consecutive day and for the first time in nearly three months on Friday with 582 new infections.

              The province reported 152 COVID-19 patients in hospital on Friday, down one from Thursday's adjusted total of 153. Hospitalizations are up 65 per cent since the start of the month.

              There are 37 Albertans receiving coronavirus care in ICUs, up one from Wednesday. Thrirty-seven is the highest ICU patient count since June 27.

              The province has had over 100 COVID-19 patients in hospital every day since Aug. 3 and more than 20 patients in ICU since the start of the month.

              Among eligible Albertans, 76.7 per cent have now received a first dose of vaccine and 67.5 per cent have had two doses.

              The province reported a 6.17 per cent test positivity rate on about 9,300 tests.

              Active cases are now at 4,438, their highest mark since the first week of June...

                Active cases now sit at 5,354, up 916 since Friday

                Alberta reported 1,407 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, compiling three days of data over the weekend.

                The 1,407 cases were detected from Friday to Sunday:

                392 cases on Aug. 15; 5,328 tests with a 7.47 per cent positivity rate
                451 cases on Aug. 14; 7,159 tests with a 6,44 per cent positivity rate
                564 cases on Aug. 13; 8,002 tests with a 7.16 per cent positivity rate

                Active cases have now climbed to 5,354, an increase of 916 from the province's last update on Friday. The province last had more than 5,000 cases on June 4, as cases were trending downwards...

                ...The province reported that 1,215 cases of coronavirus variants of concern were detected. There are currently 4,354 active cases of variants in Alberta — about 81 per cent of the total.

                Since early July, the highly infectious delta variant has made up most cases of variants of concern detected in the province.

                There were 161 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 as of Monday's update, an increase of nine over the weekend. Of those, 43 are in intensive care.

                Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta's chief medical officer of health, noted on her Twitter that of people admitted to regular hospital beds, 76.3 per cent were unvaccinated and 7.5 per cent partially vaccinated.

                Of those in the ICU, 90.7 per cent were unvaccinated and 4.7 per cent were partially vaccinated...

                  Alberta public health officials reported 407 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and three additional deaths.

                  A total of 2,336 Albertans have now died due to the disease.

                  Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta's chief medical officer of health, tweeted that 74 per cent of the new cases were unvaccinated, 9 per cent partially vaccinated and 17 per cent fully vaccinated.

                  Tuesday's update saw hospitalizations rise by 15 to 176, including 44 patients in intensive care units.

                  Hinshaw noted on her Twitter that of people admitted to regular hospital beds, 77.3 per cent were unvaccinated and 8.4 per cent partially vaccinated.

                  Of those in the ICU, 88.6 per cent were unvaccinated and 4.5 per cent were partially vaccinated...

                    EDMONTON -- Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to rise in Alberta as the number of patients receiving care grew to levels not seen in nearly two months, according to the latest data released Wednesday.

                    The province reported 184 COVID-19 patients in hospital, up three from Tuesday's adjusted total.

                    There are 48 Albertans receiving coronavirus care in intensive care units, an increase of four from Tuesday and the most since June 24.

                    More than 89 per cent of those COVID-19 patients in in ICUs are unvaccinated and more than 76 per cent of coronavirus patients in hospital have yet to receive a first shot...

                      Alberta reports 817 new COVID-19 cases, four new deaths

                      Alberta health officials reported 817 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, which is 139 more than the 678 infections found the previous day.

                      Including today’s new cases, the province’s active infection count has risen to 6,367.

                      Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to rise in Alberta as well, with 198 people now in hospital with the virus.

                      This is an increase of 14 from Wednesday’s count of 184, and includes 43 individuals in intensive care.

                      Four new deaths caused by the virus were reported over the past 24 hours, bringing Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,342...

                        Alberta reported 749 new cases of COVID-19 Friday and one additional death.

                        As of the latest update, a total of 2,343 Albertans have died of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic.

                        The new cases were detected on 9,005 tests with a positivity rate of 8.32 per cent.

                        Active cases increased by 342 to 6,709 across the province. According to Alberta Health, 73.26 per cent of active cases are unvaccinated, 11.55 per cent are partially vaccinated and 15.19 per cent are people who are fully vaccinated...

                          Alberta confirms 1,972 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths over 3 days

                          Alberta health confirmed an additional 1,972 positive COVID-19 cases were reported over the weekend from about about 23,000 tests.

                          There were 821 cases confirmed on Friday, 678 positive cases confirmed on Saturday and 473 were confirmed on Sunday.

                          Five additional deaths were reported since Friday. Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll now sits at 2,348...

                          ...As of Monday, there were 244 people in hospital with COVID-19, with 54 of those receiving care in the ICU. That’s an increase from 221 in hospital and 48 of those people in the ICU on Friday...

                            Alberta doctors call for mandatory vaccination of health workers; 629 new COVID-19 cases confirmed

                            The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) is calling for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination of all health-care workers in the province.

                            Its call joins similar ones from the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Nurses Association and other doctor associations in Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia...

                            ...The call comes on the same day Alberta announced it had identified 629 new COVID-19 cases in the province.

                            With 6,010 tests completed on Monday, Alberta’s positivity rate surpassed 10 per cent...

                                Alberta reports 1,112 new COVID-19 infections Thursday as hosptitalizations rise

                                Alberta’s active cases of COVID-19 continue to rise, with 1,112 new infections confirmed on Thursday — bringing the total active cases to 9,066.

                                Hospitalizations are also continuing to increase.

                                According to Alberta Health, 308 people are in hospital with the virus — up from 284 on Wednesday — and 64 of them are being treated in ICUs. That’s five more intensive care patients than the previous day.

                                Four additional deaths were reported Thursday, putting the province’s total mortality rate from COVID-19 at 2,260...
