    Quebec reports 2,076 new COVID-19 cases as hospitalizations rise by 54

    Quebec's health ministry said Tuesday that 23 people have died due to COVID-19 and hospitalizations have risen by 54 in the last 24 hours.

    The daily update shows the total number of deaths related to the coronavirus has risen to 15,697.

    As of Tuesday, there were 1,663 people receiving care in hospital after 374 people were admitted and 320 people were discharged in the last 24 hours.

    ICU cases, however, went down to 38, a decrease of six since Monday.

    The ministry says 2,076 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 after getting a PCR test, which is reserved for priority clientele. With a rise in daily cases, there was also a jump in the positivity rate; it was 16.3 per cent on Tuesday.

    An additional 679 rapid antigen test results were logged with the province in the last 24 hours, 590 of which were positive tests...

      Quebec's seventh wave is underway, and the new Omicron BA.5 variant now accounts for about 43 per cent of new coronavirus cases, according to senior public health advisor Dr. Marie-France Raynault...

      ..."We expect to have more hospitalizations in the next few weeks," she said. "The situation is not so bad in that we don't have that many people in the intensive care units, that's important, but we still have a high rate of transmission."..,

      ... As of Thursday, the Health Ministry is distinguishing between the different types of COVID-19 hospitalizations.

      In the last 24 hours, it reported an increase of 93 hospitalizations linked to COVID-19, with 258 new entries and 165 discharges.

      There are currently 1,860 people occupying beds.

      Of those, 632 were admitted for complications directly related to COVID-19.

      The remaining were admitted for other conditions but tested positive for the virus once at the hospital, those people make up about 55 per cent of COVID-19 patients.

      "That was not the case in previous waves, in 2020," said Raynauld, who distinguished Quebec's seventh wave from previous ones. "There are more people hospitalized with COVID than for COVID."

      Meanwhile, there are 45 people with COVID-19 in the ICU, an increase of two from the previous day, with eight entries and six discharges.

      Of those, 21 were admitted for COVID-19, while the others tested positive later on...

        There are now 2,088 Quebecers in hospital to be treated for COVID-19, a decrease of 22 in the last 24 hours.

        According to public health officials, 698 people were admitted to be treated specifically for the virus, while the others tested positive onsite.

        Intensive care admissions are down by five, for a total of 54 people receiving care -- 30 specifically for COVID-19.

        The province's health officials also confirmed 15 more deaths, a total of 15,849.

        On July 20, a total of 15,511 samples were analyzed.

        Quebec added 1,898 new PCR COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of people infected to 1,134,683 since the start of the pandemic.

        A total of 260,681 rapid tests have been declared. Of that number, 217,508 positive tests were noted.

        Thursday, 627 were reported, with 546 of them positive...

          More Quebecers seeking medical care for COVID-19 as deaths increase by 15

          The number of Quebecers in hospital seeking treatment for COVID-19 has increased by 62 people for a new total of 2,148.

          According to public health officials, 724 of those patients require care specifically for the virus.

          Intensive care admissions are up by two, for a total of 61.

          Officials note that 31 of those cases are related explicitly to COVID-19...

            Jump in hospitalizations as Quebec reports 25 more COVID-19 deaths

            Quebec reported 25 more deaths attributed to COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total to 15,916 since the pandemic began.

            There are currently 2,221 people in Quebec hospitals with COVID-19, 753 of whom were admitted for reasons directly related to the virus, while the others tested positive at the hospital.

            It's an increase of 73 hospitalizations since the previous day, with 262 entries and 189 discharges.

            Meanwhile, ICU numbers went up four, with 14 entries and 10 discharges, for a total of 65 beds occupied. Of those, 35 were admitted for reasons directly related to COVID-19.

            There are currently 6,478 health workers absent for COVID-related reasons.

            NEW CASES

            The Health Ministry also logged 1,780 cases of the virus on Wednesday with a test positivity rate of 13.5 per cent.

                Quebec's health ministry said Thursday COVID-19 hospitalizations remained mostly stable from the day before as the province recorded 13 new deaths.

                The total number of deaths has risen to 15,929 since the start of the pandemic.

                There was a rise of just one hospitalization, for a total of 2,222 people receiving care. Of those people in hospital, 763 were admitted because of the virus.

                Meanwhile, ICU cases rose by four in the last 24 hours, for a total of 69 — 50 per cent of which were admitted for the coronavirus.

                The number of health-care workers absent for COVID-related reasons was 6,532, which is a decrease from 7, 349 seven days ago...

                  Quebec's health ministry reported Tuesday that 12 more people have died due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, for a total of 15,971 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

                  Hospitalizations are stable at 2,126, an increase of one from the previous day.

                  In the ICU, there are 59 patients, including 29 due to COVID-19, a decrease of eight from the previous day.

                    COVID-19: Quebec reports 18 new deaths and a drop in hospitalizations

                    Quebec reported 18 new deaths related to COVID-19 on Thursday, in addition to a decrease in hospitalizations.

                    There are currently 2,136 hospitalizations, including 725 due to COVID-19, a decrease of 10 from Wednesday. Sixty-seven people are in intensive care, the same number as the day before. Thirty-one of those patients are in intensive care due to COVID-19.

                    A total of 5,049 health-care workers are out for COVID-19-related reasons, such as precautionary withdrawal or isolation.

                    The death toll stands at 16,010...

                      There are now 2,102 Quebecers in hospital, including 714 due to COVID-19, according to public health officials Wednesday.

                      That is an increase of 64 patients.

                      There are 55 people in intensive care, including 32 due to COVID-19, for a decrease of three compared to the previous day.

                      There are 19 more deaths due to the virus, a total of 16,088.

                      On Aug. 8, a total of 13,647 samples were analyzed.

                      Quebec also added 1,211 PCR COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of people infected to 1,159,087.

                      A total of 273,877 rapid tests have been declared with 229,070 positive tests registered.

                      In the last 24 hours, 257 were reported, with 217 positive.

                      Quebec is encouraging people to declare the status of their at-home rapid test so officials can get a clearer picture of infection levels in the province...

                        Due to a "change in methodology," Quebec says it is unable to provide hospitalization and intensive care numbers for Monday.

                                No Quebecers died due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, according to public health officials Wednesday.

                                Nevertheless, authorities did confirm 11 more deaths -- seven between two and seven days ago and four more than a week ago -- for a total of 16,374.

                                In addition, the number of people in hospital to be treated for COVID-19 has decreased by 30.

                                The total number of people receiving care is now 1,777, including 596 due to COVID-19.

                                Intensive care admissions are down by seven, for a total of 42, with 22 specifically for COVID-19 treatment.

                                On Aug. 29, a total of 12,828 samples were analyzed.
